yeah i'll be sure to report back how it rides. it's going to be my winter project. thinking of picking up a white Regal saddle and a nitto stem/nitto bullhorns soon. i have the sugino messenger cranks and mavic cxp-22's so i'll hold off on those upgrades til i can save enough for open pros and maybe sugino 75's?
if anyone has suggestions for a good bottom bracket, seat post (27.2), headset (threaded) , i'm open to suggestions!

don't need/want the parts that it comes with. i guess i could have parted it out? i'd rather just pay less and build up the frame (i will arguably spend more in building it up in the end, but I plan on using nicer parts).

What kind of parts do you plan on using?

Welp, I have some parts from my old ride that I'll switch over to this one, but I'll be getting the following parts new: Selle San Marco Regal saddle (white), Nitto Dynamic seatpost, Nitto Dynamic stem, Nitto RB-009 handlebars. I believe the frameset comes with a stock headset, not sure if I'll keep it. Still figuring out the bottom bracket situation. From my old ride, I'll be switching over my Sugino RD cranks w/ TA Specialties chain ring, Mavic CXP-22 rims w/formula hubs and Gatorskins.
Eventually I'd like to upgrade to a nicer wheelset and cranks. Ideally it would be Mavic Open Pro's and maybe Sugino 75's.

those steel langsters look so nice in person, I saw one at the lbs the other day, the stock build is actually pretty nice looking.

don't forget that the RD and 75 cranks will required a different taper bottom bracket. You may want to just make the jump to sugino 75s now and not have to buy two bottom brackets.
I made you a sweet design you can make into a sticker and put on your bike. Ride fast and have fun!

^ is that a bear claw with the thumb cut off or a nice set of juicy ribs fresh off the barbie?
And op, what is wrong with the bb you are using now on the RD crankset? why do you need a new one?
Edit: I get it, lamb chops eh. Had to scroll back up and see the op's name and avitar.

I would love to switch to the 75's, but just don't have the cash at the moment. I'll throw down for the 75 cranks, chain ring and BB when the time is right.

Ahem, I beg to differ. Every shop I went to that could order it was charging no less than $440. I found no other websites selling the frameset except citygrounds. Shipping was free, so at $350 I'm totally happy.
Edit: And if you know of a better deal, enlighten me.

Have they shipped it yet? Because according to their website: "Separate charges apply to Overweight items like bicycles, bike carriers, trainers and workstands."
Just curious. I am sure I could just ask them. I thought I would as you first since I thought that was easier... but I guess not.

I just received an e-mail with my tracking info today. So yeah, everything's all good.

Seems like a pretty decent price for a good looking bike.
I owned one of these when they first came out. My specialized rep snagged one up for me. I built it and rode it for a little bit. Got rid of it within about 3 months. It was fine. Looked better than it rode but it was a nice bike none the less. I paid $225 for the frameset. The fork is a hunk of scrap metal. Toss it and replace asap. It might make a good paper weight. Its not the same fork thats in the pictures. They did a last minute changeto save some money.
I made the switch to a 1986 Pinarello so there is really no comparison between the two. I liked mine but dont think Ill get another.
Here was mine.

Same build as you almost.
RD crank, dynamic seat post and stem, nitto drops, soma okami saddle, mavic reflex tubular/conti gyro combo.

Damn it, I knew all that chrome was too good to be true. What fork did you replace the original with? I'm planning on doing a lot riding with this, so I'd like a nice chrome fork.
Now that I think of it, how was the headset? I was thinking that it wouldn't be much to speak of and should be replaced. Oh, and what BB did you use with RD cranks?

I didn't mean that you could have gotten a better deal on a Langster. What I meant was that there are many basic TIGed steel framesets out there of basically identical quality that are sold for much less than what you ordered your Langster for. At $350, that frameset is overpriced. But as long as you are happy with it, than thats cool.

This is definitely all true, but there was 2 things that set this one apart from others. what really got me was the geometry, slightly more relaxed than standard track geo. also, most bikes dont come with a chrome fork, or especially chromed stays. so i guess the paint also hooked me in as well.

My cousin got his langster steel frameset from CG as well. The fork is definitely much cheaper looking in person. It works but the chrome looks pretty cheap. The chrome is uneven and not completely mirror finished like I expected. Definitely overpriced. Those half chrome Kilos coming out will most likely be a much better deal. Too bad they didn't pick a red colorway.

What the hell is wrong with this forum? I can't start new threads or Go Advanced. It's become too much of a PITA to continue to post or surf here I think.
Say what you want about Specialized, price and blah blah blah. This is one of three 52 CM Specialized bikes that I own, they fit like gloves. These dudes understand frame construction, geometry and bike fit. They use places like the Tour de France as their labratory. The knowedge gained there trickles down into all of their road bikes. I laugh my ass off when newbies compare Specialized to BD bikes.

I got mine a couple weeks ago from my lbs for 400 tax included. for a relatively unresearched, quasi impulse purchase ($400 in my pocket from the guy who hit my old bike) I'm extremely happy with it. cringed a little at the quill stem and tig welds, threadless and lugged would be much "cooler." but also beyond my price range. the fork looks awful. i think i could've done a better job with a can of "chrome" krylon and clear coat. I might try some fine wet sandpaper followed by a polishing compound. probably not worth it though. have a beautiful campy chrome fork but the steerer is way too short for my 61cm frame. i'll post some pics of the bike when i find a backdrop that adequately represents my sense of style and personality.
oh i'm michael, by the way. from kansas. hi.
