I ordered a 49cm SE draft at performance bike today(its being assembled now). I bought it on impulse since it was only $210, but i havent picked it up yet. I know its hi ten (kinda junky) but its something I'll ride to school and serve its purpose. Your opinions?
Too late, you already bought it ATMO
Ride on McDuff, and damned be he who says "hold enough."

It rides nice actually. I think I could use this and not worry too much about it getting stolen, or it getting rained on at school. It could get me used to ss/fixed before I take a bigger investment. And actually, to me, its not too heavy.

return policy?
Yes there is. I think I might just keep it, as it rides fine for me(and i dont look at it and think an immediate upgrade), and it comes with lifetime tuneups.

Lifetime tuneups on a single speed?

Free brake retuning, wheel truing, cheap stuff I guess.

Hiten steel may be heavy, but it'll last forever.

210 bucks out the door, your first bike and free wheel truing? To hell with what anyone says, ride that thing!
I would kill for free wheel truing. Congrats on the pick up and forget about comparing to the other bikes out there, this is what you have so just enjoy the bike.

Did he get a new one from warranty?

he's been meaning to upgrade to something lighter so he never bothered to look into it.

How long did he ride it?
I'll give a detailed review soon after I get in a ride other than going down my street.

$175 for a complete fixed gear is a deal, I'd say. if it's your first FG, i wouldn't complain! ride the hell out of it and worry about upgrading later.
although your riding experience will be greatly improved if you get some decent clips and straps. you can always migrate those to a new bike when the time comes, so don't be afraid of making the investment.

It was a singlespeed. It doesn't have stepped threading on the hub so no converting. It's not a flipflop either.

You got a good deal; especially with those lifetime free services :D

If you prevent it from rusting..... just store it inside and dry it out if you ride in the rain.

why would hiten last any longer than cromo or aluminum? just because it's heavy it's somehow more durable?
i'm thinking it's thought along the same lines that straight gauge spokes are somehow more durable than double butted spokes. it's a commutable bike, but i wouldn't say it's any more durable or more suitable for commuting than a 4130 frame.

I had a 2008 SE Draft for $190 to see if I would like SS. Yeah, it's not the sexiest, but it rides just fine...and you can lock it up without worrying about theft, ride it in the rain, and generally beat the hell out of it without worrying about your "investment". And, if it turns out you love SS, you can upgrade and feel fine that you got your $175's worth out of it while you had it. I don't regret the time or $ I spent on that bike.

Wat^^? Anyway. I heard bad things about the draft, but for that price and everything included seems worth it. I really wanna get a cheap bike I don't care about for polo

Eighthinch scrambler frames can be had for $150. built like a tank, perfect for polo.

It's one thing to just leave your bike out for months and months until the whole drivetrain is rusted out, but as long as you're riding it daily, it can survive outside. A little bit of frame rust never hurt nobody.

...Straight gauge spokes are more durable than butted. The fact that it is heavier is exactly why it's more durable. Just because you can commute on lighter stuff doesn't make that stuff as durable (you should ask the clyde forum).

Or rather, gram for gram, double-butted spokes are stronger than straight gauge. Just saying.....

friend of mine left his SE draft outside for something like 2 or three months (in the rain, very sad) and came back to find a couple snapped spokes on the rear wheel (they broke right at the head, near the hub). I don't know what kind of spokes they were, but just thought i'd contribute....

I have no idea if that's true but it's beside the point because in this case nobody cares how heavy you get, as long as you're strong as ****.
