Greeting all. Can anyone recommend a diet book which is geared for cyclists...get it, geared?..anyway, books such as the Lance Armstrong/Chris Carmichael training guides are great, but when it comes to diet they speak in general terms. Diet specific books seem to only target people trying to lose weight, which is not my sole purpose when it comes to a diet.
I need a diet that is regimented/strict, one that tells me what to eat and when, what to eat before and after rides, etc.
Thanks in advance. Zach

Hi Zach, (is that something like agent 99?:D),I don't have any cycling specific diet books, but "Food for Sport" is a good one, that covers the dietary needs of athletes in general. It's by Nathan J. Smith, MD., published by Bull Publishing Co.

It covers nutrition for various types of sports, and has some specific sample meal plans.

I think you'll find that in general most people will recommend a diet high in complex carbohydrates for endurance sports like ours, with some protein, and a minimum of fat, and of course lots of water.

That means pasta, rice, potatoes, whole wheat bread etc., and unless you're trying to lose weight, lots of them.

Good Luck!
