Road Cycling - Retro Jerseys

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Wonder what kind of responses I'll get when I start riding this out in pickup-land :D

Pravda Komrad, Pravda!
Pravda Komrad, Pravda!
You know, I'm actually wondering if most of the people I encounter out in the boonies, except for maybe the older ones, will even know what CCCP stands for. Of course the hammer and sickle might give it away :)
They'll probably drive past and yell "Hey, *** ... it's supposed to say USSR" ...

I actually saw someone wearing that jersey on Tuesday afternoon. He turned a corner 50 yards to my left, and I had to do a double-take. I'll tell you, it sure made a memorable impression. I remember thinking, "What kind of commie would be wearing that jersey," in a nostalgic way.

You might get a few dirty looks. You won't get as many as my friend who wore a CCCP soccer sweatshirt to an American Legion event at Badger Boy's State.
G'day,
if you are in 'Good ole boy land', you may as well paint a target on your back!...LOL...still it will go well with the 'Chevrolet' insignia that's gunna be branded upon your ass (from the hood!),
cheers,
Hitchy
Where did you obtain such a jersey. I'd sport that in a second.

Same here, I won't mind wearing that jersey, I think it will be a fashion statement, but i won't wear that in the old country, i might end up in the gutter (street lingo for getting killed)

Then you can yell back "It does say USSR...in Cyrillic...go back to history class!" but then you better just high tail it outta there...you know how fond of "skooling" they probably were! lol... :D

Gotta say that does look pretty damn cool. Though, not being from Russia or having it in my family background I personally wouldn't feel right wearing it. Because you know the questions, "Are you Russian or are you from Russia?" is gonna get asked.
Besides even if I wanted to pull it off, I do a horrible immitation of the accent. Sounds like Dolph Lundgren (sp?) in Rocky 4 on roids...hey wait a sec! :D
I have a tshirt that says has the hammer and sickle and says CCCP under it. I was in the parking lot of a store walking to my car when a very large man with tattoos on his arm came up to me and said something in Russian pointing at my shirt. I just started at him for a few seconds and said "ahhh yes" and quickly hopped in my car.
I lived in Kazakhstan in '97-98 and brought back a lot of little Soviet tchotchkes like pins and flags. You could always go down to the local park and buy Red Army and Communist Party medals from little old men. Sad, really.
When I got back home I started wearing a pin on my blazer that said Master of Sport, USSR. I'd occasionally get stopped by a Russian immigrant and it was a nice opportunity to use my (rapidly diminishing) Russian language skills.
I may have to order one....

That's what I'm talking about. You have a connection to the jersey and what it is. Where as I just think it looks cool. I'd have to compliment you if I ever saw you wearing it.

If you could somehow manage to sport this with some of the older LA Sherriff/Chevy bibs you may seriously confuse some of those who are more 'earnestly' proud to be an American. But then the confusion may lead to crossed eyes, which may lead to you getting hit in this scenario as well.

Here are some great authentic wool " retro " jersey's (http://www.vintagevelos.com/clothing1.html)
I have one, it's perfect for the brisk mornings and not too hot on days below 90 deg.
