It's amazing how much pain 1 tooth can cause. Searing, intense pain that radiates into an overall headache  I've been taking painkillers since last night until I can get to a dentist, hopefully on Monday. Advil are fantastic. I just took 400 mg half hour ago, and already the pain is numbed to a bearable point. Very impressive! The only problem is that I can only take 3 of them in a 24 hour period, 1 every 4 hours. This means I've got to be very selective when I take them, putting up with pain for most of the day. On top of that, the painkiller only really lasts a couple of hours max. I can definitely see how someone with chronic pain could get addicted to painkillers. Pain just isn't worth putting up with if you don't have to. :twitchy:

I'm contiplating switching to 200 mg pills to allow me to take up to 6 in a 24 hour period. Only problem with that is a 200 mg dose doesn't do much for the pain.

Which painkiller brand do you use when you can't bear the pain?

Which painkiller do I use? Whatever my brother-in-law, the liquor store owner, gives me the best deal on.

I've been thinking of asking the doc for some painkillers to deal with this hernia I've got. Tonight though, I'm using a bottle of wine.

I used to take ibuprofen, then a couple of beers. Worked well.

hospital strength codeine. I still have some leftover from breaking my elbow a year or two ago. Otherwise just 500mg paracetamol.

I hate meds in my body. I try to deal with it by working out and loosening things up but if I can't the most I'll take is a Tylenol 500.

I do too. I will only take painkillers as a very last resort. Unfortunately this pain is too severe. After taking my painkiller last night, I fell asleep until midnight when I woke up with a throbbing pain. Instead of a painkiller, because it was too soon since my last one, I applied ice to the area on the gum. This worked enough to let me fall asleep again. Then I woke up a 3am again, with the same pain. Decided to take a painkiller. It took 20 minutes for it to kick in, but now I'm feeling a bit better. Time to try to sleep again.

Looks like we're in the same boat; searing pain was going through my head last Saturday, so I was able to get a nice dentist in Phoenix who prescribed Hydrocodone/APAP (Vicodin) 500mg 4/day or as needed, Penicillin VK 500mg 4/day until finish and Ibuprophen up to 32 - 200mg liquigels a day (4-200mg liquigel doses).

Right now this is working; I'll be running out of the Vicodin aas I'm getting on the road again soon, so I've got Panadeine Plus coming in from Kiwi Drugs this week.

I'm currently reacquainting myself with an old friend, the ibuprofen bottle. Vodka or whisky are my painkillers of choice but 8:15am is a little early even by my standards.

Thanks for the tip. I'm going to the drugstore to see if I can find it. At this point, I'll try anything.

Never thought I'd drool over a cocktail of painkillers. Very impressive!

I don't take 'em, not even when I had my shoulder surgery, I actually "escaped" from the hospital the day after surgery due to the nurse trying to slip me a pain killer.

I was on hardcore oxycontin for my back for 3 years. Quit that stuff 4.5 years ago. Now I'll take Advil once in a while. When I had oral surgery I took one or two hydrocodone, they make me nauseous. I have a bottle upstairs with the rest of them. When Advil fails, opiates work. Just try not to take them for more than a week straight. I hope to never have to take opiates again, but once in a while nothing else works (post surgery, more serious injuries).

Err, youre talking a bout getting addicted to Advil? I really dont think you have to worry about that too much. Just be careful with the Vicodin, Percocet, stuff like that and you should be ok. :)

No, I'm sympathizing with people who have real chronic pain, and the tempation to become addicted to painkillers. A toothache is bad enough, chronic back pain would be difficult to deal with.

for whatever reason I have never had any sort of pain relief from pain pills and i have been prescribed some heavy stuff (darvocet, percoset, vicodin, etc...). None of them work for me. The only time I actually notice things are when hospitals have me hooked up to an IV and an anaesthesiologist knocks me out.

I recently developed a cyst in one of my sinuses. It causes constant migraines (and a few other unpleasant symptoms).

Vicodin is my friend.

One tramadol does it for me. Not only is my pain gone, but I become charming. (At least I think so.)

Had a wisdom tooth cut out/pulled in the Army in '86; dentist had to practically stand on my chest to get the thing out! Then, he gave me...

Motrin.

I spent two days literally beating my head against the wall.

For my collarbone last year, I had vicodin for about a week -- talk about constipation! Went over to oxycodone, 1x/day was enough.

Been on etodolac (Lodine) for about 5 years now, for herniated lumbar discs. 2-3/day.

Lotta people talked about the oxy being addicitive; maybe it was the low dose, but I didn't miss it when it ran out....

Vicodin was good while I lasted. But all good things come to an end... like the original beetle, the pirate bay and mininova. If it's too good it gets axed.
