I don't have a grandchild yet, but I have a grandniece! My niece had a baby last April. This is the first great grandchild in the family. She is the cutest little thing. She came Christmas shopping with us the day after Thanksgiving. Mom had her dressed in pink sparkly Converse hi-tops. :P

I just discovered that my 6yo daughter (well, 6 on Tuesday) likes the dog treats I use for the very little bit of training I do with the mastiff.

The 17 yr old girl just scored a composite of 33 on her ACT. And my 6 yr old son is now doing one armed push-ups.

I've got twin girls. When they were about 10 years old and on a sailing vacation with me, one wrote the other a note:

'I can't talk. I have a sour trout.' I still have that note. Use it as a book mark. She's now a Harvard educated lawyer. Her twin is a financial analyst. Their older brother is in the Coast Guard. No matter what goes wrong in the rest of my life, I'll die a proud father.

I don't have any kids but this Thanksgiving when the whole family gathered, I saw my nieces. Just the other day they were little tiny babies that I carried in my arms, now they're young ladies who are taller than me. :P

One of my teenage relatives who I bump heads with on a regular basis and who I'm VERY strict with (trying to keep him away from gang activity) said to me that I was good this year so Santa is going to be nice to me.

After playing baseball every summer for years, my son fought fires with the forest service last summer. He is a business major at university and is running the Seattle Marathon today. My twin daughters are ninth graders in high school. They transferred from the local school district to another one so they could take the International Baccalaureate program there. They went out for cross country this year for the first time and both made the varsity team. Sometimes I go running with them. They are nice enough to circle back for me, often.

They're great! :) We had very little problems with them while they were growing up (and that says a lot when you're growing up in North Philly!:twitchy:) and the problems that did come about were trivial at most, here's an example of "the norm" in philly ghettos, about 80% of the children live in single parent families, 75 percent of those are on welfare, 30-50% of the kids end up selling drugs, then in jail and or dead before they hit 20 and the rest soon after, I'd say 60% of early teen girls in the Philly badlands end up pregnant and living with some *** drug dealer that later runs off with another early teen and repeats the process, where do I get my statistics? I've lived them every day for the past 35 years! Now my kids? well my oldest is 25 and has been married for two years, she's a Tech at Verison, my youngest is 21 and is living at home. (Comfortably! LOL!) both our girls have no kids. I remember being at a school function once and my daughters teacher came up to us and said the following,"I want to be the first to say that every member on our staff wants to adopt your daughter! She is just that great!" we thanked her for the compliment and she went on to tell us something we thought was unbelievable! apparently we were the only two parents that were both the actual "biological" parents of our child! in the whole school! :twitchy: Every other parent was either a single parent, seperated, remarried, or foster parent! crazy **** right there!

These are some really great stories here. Says a lot about who you are as THE adult in their lives. Kids are our future. We all have to contribute to that. There is never too much love to give.

My little nephew couldn't say 'truck' he said it with an F instead of a tr sound. So..........firetruck became fire****, big truck was a big ****, and dumptruck was a dum****. It was pretty embarrassing when he would get excited, point and scream "Look!! A DUM ****!!" while pointing, usually in the direction of somebody.. We tried so hard not to laugh in front of him.

taught one of the local high school fixie kids how to change his tire and put his wheel on straight today.

When I pull t-shirts off my 2 y.o. daughter, I like leaving it around the crown of her head with the collar forming a sort of headband/headwrap. I then point her at the mirror and say, "Look shirthead". We both giggle at the silly look. Then she runs off to show her mom all the while saying "Look shirthead" (without quite being able to pronounce the "r" in shirt). Mom is not usually amused.

A year or so ago I had a six year old (My landlady's daughter) ask me how old she had to be to get married, and how many years that was... She then turned to my wife and tells her 'You can have him for now, but you're going to HAVE to get a divorce. Hehe.

About 5 years ago my friend's 7 year old twin daughters asked me to marry them both! *laughs*

The kiddos and I made a paper mache volcano. It was messy as hell but it was so much fun. We're painting it tomorrow. :)

My daughter, 11, wants to do the entire main route of the local MUP, a 32-miler RT. Her IQ test puts her 1 point below mine, and mine scares some people.

My oldest nephew, now 17, did a 20+ -miler with me at 10. 2nd nephew, 15, has taken to riding everywhere he can, like me. Youngest, 6, rode 8 miles on a 12-inch-wheeled bike when he was 4, just to go to the park with my daughter & me.

They're all too bright for their own good....

My daughter and only child was with my first wife. During most of her late teens/early twenties she wouldn't speak to me. As she was attending classes for her Masters Degree in Social Counseling she decided that we needed to re-connect. For a little over a year now we have become close again and about a month ago I got to be a part of her wedding. I could not be more ecstatic that we are in each others lives again. And I'm very proud of her too!

My oldest niece (age 8) is now rocking her (extremely hilly) neighborhood on her first multi-geared bike. Her younger sisters are equally spectacular (if not bike riders yet).
