Heya-
I'm starting at UM grad school in a week...anyone on this forum from A2? I'd like to have someone to ride with and/or let me know some good places to ride. I tried to ride through the arboreatum (sp?) last week, and it just didn't work out for my fixed gear roadie. maybe my trek could've handled it. I hope to have the bianchi fixed for any decent weather and the trek mtb for inclement (which i hear is mostly the rule) weather. might fix the trek. so any fixie fans and mechanics, let me know where you're at. You can help me.

ben - i'm a new member, native ann arborite and fixed gear addict - have an 80s track bike i wouldn't dare take into the arb (as we call it) but love to ride around town and especially along huron river drive. you will need to familiarize yourself with huron river drive as soon as possible. as a gainfully employed adult family man i have less time than i would like to ride, and even less time to tinker with bikes, but if we can hook up for a blast out to dexter on our fixies that would be great. i'n s-l-o-w-l-y converting my ancient french road bike into a fixed for commuting purposes, so mechanical issues are of interest to me as well.

there are some old farts around here (my friends, actually) who claim to have invented mountain biking in the arb back in the 70s. farts of a similar age in marin county would beg to differ, but it isn't really important - i've thought of the arb as off-limits to bikes since the 80s. there are too many exotic plants there - it is, after all, an arboretum!

My wife and I used to go out Huron River Drive on our roadies; we'd drive in from Detroit, do an out-and-back on HRD, then pig out at the Del Rio, Jer Garden, Blue Nile etc. Nice road! We never did the Arb; I vaguely remember taking family car trips there as a kid decades ago. Isn't there a paved road thru it?

Dexter / Chelsea has some NICE roads. I totally forget how to get there, but we used to ride to this little town called Gregory (?) where they had some dee-LISH pies. Everett's Cafe, if memory serves. 'Course, it's probably all developed with beige-sided tract homes by now...

Lucky you; western edge of the eastern time zone, means LATE sunsets, LONG evening rides. Enjoy them!
