I recently found out teh kitteh is SO addicted to mint/menthol.

I remember mentioning on here that he ate tiger balm once--he licked it off me when I rubbed some on myself, and I was worried that it would have ill effects. Nope, no ill effects. Then I noticed that whenever I would put something even remotely minty or menthol-smelling--tiger balm, vicks, red flower oil, etc.--he would come sniffing it and trying to lick it off me. I chalked it up to him not liking the smell and wanting to lick it off me so I wouldn't smell bad to him.

Just recently I was eating some Ricola while lying in bed and he kept sniffing my breath and pestering me to give him some. I was like, "WTF, no, kitteh, you can't have any because this stuff is for hoomans. And besides I thought you didn't like mint so just shoo and don't sniff it." Then, a bit after that, I was using one of those Vicks menthol inhaler things (the kind you shove up your nostril to alleviate congestion) and he came up to me and wanted to sniff it too. I saw no harm in letting him sniff it, so I gave him the cover of the inhaler. Oh boy, teh kitteh acted like he was on catnip, which is funny, since he doesn't react to actual catnip. He was teetering, purring, sniffing it, licking it, and chewing a little on it, and he walked funny for quite some time after I let him sniff it. When I took it away to wash it so I could put it back on the container he tried to chase it and beg for more. I started calling him "Menth-head" after this.

So what weird stuff are your pets addicted to?

My old room mate's cat ate anything you put in front of him: lettuce, rice, rapini, spinch, any kind of meat, peeled grapes, chewed on tea bags, drank coffee, beer, whiskey, etc. He was addicted to popcorn and would put his whole head into a bowl of freshly made popcorn. He'd dive in and come out with a mouthful.

Lots of fun that cat.

Roommate's dog loves wires. Ate a subwoofer cable and quite a length of speaker wire a few weeks ago.

Yesterday she ate my laptop's AC adapter wire (buh-bye laptop). It was plugged in, and the scene smelled faintly of burning dog, so hopefully she learned her lesson.

I used to keep horses...one of them was addicted to lemons and molasses. I suppose the latter is understandable, being on the sweet side. Lemons, however were a surprise. This horse would eat them straight - rind and all.

I hope you realize some nuts are toxic to dogs, right?

Some they are only allergic to. You'd really do well to just avoid nuts all together with dogs. Keep that poochie happy and healthy.

She's never had the macadamias or walnuts mentioned. She's mostly just gotten the occasional drop (peanut or almond) and she always comes begging when someone has them.

I wouldn't let the dog have any if it were me. Just because she loves them doesn't mean they are good for her....dogs will go crazy over chocolate too, but it may kill them.

Yogurt and fresh catnip. One of them licks the spoon after I scoop some out of the quart container, and then licks the container clean until she can't get her head in any farther. They both like their fresh nip and get the munchies after indulging.

Leaves.

He can sit by the back door with a bird or the resident chipmunk out there and he'll just sit and quietly watch, but not in pounce mode. When it's fall and the leaves start to drop, he goes absolutely bananas "protecting" his turf from those invading leaves.

One of my dogs loves nuts. Peanuts, almonds whatever.
Added: I'll leave it as it is, but I now see someone already mentioned this...

I know you weren't aware of it, but some nuts (grapes and raisins also) can cause renal failure in dogs.

Walnuts and macadamia nuts are especially toxic. As few as six can begin to cause major symptoms: vomiting, paralysis, death.

Probably peanut butter as well is not a good idea. I've used it to hide meds, but a little raw hamburger might be better.

My dog is addicted to being on the other side of the door.

Teh kitteh also likes licking stuff out of cans. Doesn't matter if it's tuna, canned clam chowder (his personal favorite), spaghetti-o's, the water left over from canned veggies, bits of canned corn, or the syrup from canned fruits--if it's in a can and you put it in front of him he will eat it.

Toilet paper. Our pigeon doesn't eat it, he rolls himself up in it and then just shakes and "coo"'s for hours. He also loves safflower seeds, and sits and lets me feed him.

I used to terrorize my roommate's cat with the open sucking hose of the vacuum cleaner until one day I actually got her. She ran a couple steps and then stopped, thought about it, came back over and plopped down for me to do it again. Ever since then the darn cat loves to be vacuumed.

Sadly, my current pooch has recently discovered the joys of eating stuff wot something else has already eaten. A lot of people ride their horses around my neighborhood so when we go walkabout, I'm constantly having to haul her head off the ground. And tuna. She looooooooves tuna.

I have a 100+ pound long hair german sheperd who is addicted to chasing flying birds. No interest in them once they've landed. No interest in the deer 30 feet away munching on the shrubs, but watch out finches! The barn swallows have figured him out, and use him for snake patrol near thier nesting places - they dive bomb him and lead him over to thier nesting area to hang around and bark at them.

our dog would salivate profusely while we ate a cup of yogurt, since she got to lick the container. She'd also watch for when we finished one of the rectangular ice cream containers. We'd unfold it and put a chair on top of a corner to keep it in place while she licked it clean.

ugh kindof hard to follow that post!

My cat does love his "nip", catnip that is. I have a fresh plant out back which he loves to lay in (so the plant looks gnarly). He also loves his "cat cookies" Whiska's treats. He knows to jump up on the daybed if he wants cookies. At least I force him to have some exercise all day if he wants a treat. He eats hard cat food and doesn't really care much for people food other than milk, yogurt and tuna juice (not tuna... just the water from the can).

Bag Balm.
My dog Sascha goes nuts trying to lick off Bag Balm.
I use it on my elbows and knuckles and when I put it on she acts like a fool trying to get to it.
My guess is she likes the lanolin.

My cats love pieces of string. It doesn't matter if it's from a ball of yarn or if it's the drawstring on a pair of sweatpants. If they see string, they have to attack it.

If my cat see strings... he will eat it. You haven't lived until you've had to drag string out of a cat's butt!
