Mountain Biking - new crankset and BB

my friend got this BB set because it seemed like a good deal, but then it crapped out on him in like a couple of weeks, creeking and such, and eventual it just becomes unuseable over time, and also check out these reviews on mtbr. http://mtbr.com/reviews/Bottom_Bracket/product_88924.shtml

it may seem a good deal, but its not. i'd say spend a little more money and get a better BB and if your crancks are in good condition just keep them

I would consider getting FSA V-drives and an FSA bb. Much better quality to the evolves (not raceface in general, just the evolves) and should be about the same price

ISIS (not sure what it stands for) describes the interface between the crank and bottom bracket. I think ISIS has 10 splines. The link in the first post shows a pic of this ISIS splined interface.

Shimano makes an Octalink, which has 8 splines.

The old fashioned interface is the square-taper, a four sided, flat faced interface.

The crank arm and bottom must have the same interface. You can't mix an ISIS bottom bracket with square taper crank.

I have a Truvativ Gigapipe Team DH ISIS BB and it is great. Very reliable.

well i took my bike up to my dads automotive shop and i managed to take apart my BB with 2 screwdrivers and a hammer and clean and lithium grease it and now it runs great. plus saved me couple of bucks. but i should eventually buy a bb casue it probly wont last very much longer. looks like the shimano bb's have good reviews and the race face one with the maple leaf on it.

Two screwdrivers = One destroyed frame because there's no way he got that BB in properly doing it that way.

due to Raiyn's reply i havent been able to sleep so i took my bike to my bike shop and tehy said my bb is in good but my crank arm bolts wernt in good so he tightened them for me. thnaks guys.
