I am looking at a Colnago Super, probably early 80's. Two questions, is there a clear way to date the frame? Does anybody know the wheel size? Thanks.

wheel size is 700c I don't think italian bikes came with 27 inch wheels.
I believe you can send serial number to Colnago who can tell you date of
frame. If not check with the CR bunch
http://www.phred.org/mailman/listinfo/classicrendezvous
this is the main sign up page for the list.
Also check the archives by doing search for Colnago but be prepared to
have alot of posts returned from that!

If you have the original Campag. components, the cranks and rear derailleur probably have date codes.

Although high-end Italian bikes always came with 700C wheels, many lower-end bike boom models designed for export to the U.S. had 27" wheels. I am specifically thinking of Atala's answer to the Peugeot UO-8, but there were several others, as well.

Thanks for all the input. I am only looking at the frame...no orig components unfortunately. It is a Colnago Super, believed to be early 80's. I hope it is 700cc, but I don't know. I know I can throw on some 700 wheels and find out quick, but I don't have the frame in my posession.

Thanks again. I really appreciate your input. Any additional insight, I'd love to hear it.

My Best.

Rick, if it fits you, buy it.

I concur about 1000%
one of my long time wish list bikes is a late 70's early 80's
colnago, either Super or Mexico.

A Colnago Super is designed for 700C wheels. I'll say that w/o any doubt whatsoever.

The chorus sings" Buy it Rick, you;ll be glaaaad.

Hi I have a Colnago Super with Mavic G40 clinchers at 27" I would like to get a date of production but where can I go to get that info? I think it could be early 80's but am not sure. I bought it recently from an American guy in London. It has a Mavic SSC gruppo and pedals. Plain red with large flaking decals. It would benefit from arespray and new decals. Would it be better to keep the 27" wheels or replace them or sell the whole bike and look for another? The 27" wheels confused me when I dicovered their size. Any help very much appreciated.
