Foo - The Anti-Christmas thread!

Some people will call me a Scrooge, but I don't care.

The first Santa thread came up, so here's a thread for us Xmas haters to post our vitriol against Xmas!

I hate the music...and now the Xmas displays in stores are coming up well before Halloween!

But yeah, the music. The same 6 songs sung over and over by different artists who all think they have something special to contribute. Fugget it!

I've tried to hold out as long as I can this year because I always get so much crap over it, but what it boils down to is:

BTW....I tried searching for my Xmas sucks thread yesterday....but the search is so borked I couldn't find anything.

I dislike the music and commercialism too- AND agree that there shouldn't have to be a special day set aside for giving (in addition to the fact that I do not observe Christmas as a religious holiday), but regardless, I do enjoy the spirit of giving at the holidays. Love it!

As a Christmastarian I am offended. I hate the music but I love getting presents. I find myself a conflicted Christmastarian.

Christmastarian defined: One who believes that on Dec 25th all over the world people give each other presents. In order to not be excluded for religous/ethical/faith based reasons and not wanting to upset the elderly or ignorant ,or use the cop out of solstice, we celebrate Christmas.

Maybe I should clarify.....that is a good thing. Yes you can do that any other day, but, its none of that which bothers me.

It's mostly what you first said....the constant barrage of advertisements, the crazy atmosphere in EVERY shopping establishment for well over a month, the commercialization, the bombardment of bad music played loud and publicly everywhere you go, the hideous lights all over everything, etc......

I try to spend every Christmas away from doing Christmas crap. And the music sucks. And the decorations suck, especially when they're put up 2 months before. And those stupid all year Christmas stores. WFT?!?

I can't stand all the happy music. My co-worker has it on her radio whenever its on, so thats a couple days before thanksgiving, to the end of the year. :mad:

I'm in the group! (I do like 2 parts of the holidays though, 1. I'm going to Mexico for 5 days before Christmas to lay on the beach. 2. On Christmas eve, one of my friends has a big bash with standing rib roast, lots of drinks and good wine. The one night a year I get pretty toasted)

We're exchanging gifts. That's where my xmas starts and ends. I don't have much in the way of family to speak of, hope my mother goes to her property and leaves me in peace with my fur-children and of course, Skype.

Probably watch "A Christmas Story" a bunch of times though, cause it's hilarious. :D

Actually I use to despise Christmas, but then I got out of retail.

I'm against Christmas creep. I don't need to see or hear any Christmas stuff before Thanksgiving. Even then it takes time to warm up to it. I've started turning the corner the last couple days, though.

Christmas needs to stop trying to eat all the other holidays.

And it's not even the birthday of Jesus, so it really has no religious significance, at least for those who say "B-b-b-b-but it's Jesus' birthday!" Now, if you want to get into its religious significance, you'll have to talk to a much older religion.

The music is crap.

The fake cheer is crap. People being happy because of Xmas spirit...feh. Get your own damn spirit and be happy because the sun is shining, not because December 25 is creeping up. Lame.

I love any holiday that gives me an opportunity to get together with my parents, my brothers and sisters and all their kids. Christmas and Thanksgiving both deliver that big time.

I saw my family for Thanksgiving (a holiday I actually like because it's nothing but getting together with family/friends), and told them I probably wouldn't be around for xmas because it's "not my thing". There was no resistance to my plan.

I can't stand cheezy Christmas songs (Beach Boys, Chipmunks, Grandma got run over by a Reindeer, etc.), and I hate being bombarded by the advertisements, but I love pretty much everything else about Christmas... just wish my wife would get me something besides clothes. :lol:
