Foo - International Phone, PLEASE HELP!!!

I'm leaving for Copenhagen on Sat to go to the UN summit on climate change and need a phone (I know SUPER late) and I was wondering if http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16875209145 would work. I can buy a sim there for an unlocked int'l phone but I'm not sure if that phone will work. http://allworldcellphones.com/gsm-frequencies-list.htm is a website that tells the frequencies (I'll be in Denmark) but I'm not sure what all the frequencies mean etc and was looking for some help from ppl who may know b/c I need to order this phone tonight!

If I remember correctly, there are kiosks at the airports in Europe where you can rent a cell phone for your stay.

I have Verizon and I rented a GSM phone from them for a very reasonable price. The send it overnight FedEx and I got it the next day.

The phone you linked supports 850 and 1900, which if you look at the frequencies list, are the frequencies used in the United States. Denmark uses 900 and 1800, though, which won't work. There might be a version of that phone that uses different frequencies, but that specific model ain't gonna help you any.

Your best bet is a "quad band" phone, one that supports all four frequencies. Though it sounds like from other posts that you may be able to just rent, or use a company that specializes in such things.

You can buy a cheap Nokia for around 30-40 euro. The 1208, 1661, and 5030 are three of the cheapest ones. Any phone shop should have one. Ask at the hotel and I'm sure they'll point out where you need to go.

By buying it in Europe you'll also have a Euro charger.

ah. we are 20th C. Kind of people. We purchase phone cards.. 15 euros will provide you with about 300 minutes of call time to the US...

I don't think that's the right version. I know the Motorola F3 is available in a 900/1800 MHz, but the specs on that newegg listing says that's the 850/1900 MHz version.

If you find the right version (I don't see it on Amazon either), the F3 is supposed to be an excellent backup/travel phone. Durable, outstanding battery life, and cheap. I'll note that while screen is easy to see, it's a little hard to read, since it's a fixed shape LCD screen like on calculators, not a pixelized one like on other phones.

Otherwise, look to rent one like others have suggested.

These guys (http://www.elgiganten.dk/catalog/tele-gps/dk_mobile_phones/mobiltelefon-uden-abonnement) (and likely many others) will sell you a phone without subscription for about $40(US). A small expenditure in phone cards and you're set.
Recycle by selling/giving it to someone when you leave.

We use one from Telestia (http://www.telestial.com/)l. You can get a quad band GSM from them if you want, or if you're only going to Europe, just get the Europe model (all of Europe, and most of the world, uses 900/1800).

Oh, and incoming calls are generally free, so you can set your home phone up on a cheap international plan just for the duration that you're over there then your kids call call you anytime pretty reasonably. Or you can call them and have them call you right back to talk more cheaply. Also make sure to either pre-program the number to that phone into their speed dial, or teach them how to dial an international number.
