Introductions - The things you do for love...like learning to cycle!

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Hi guys!

I am launching myself head first into cycling and want to learn all about it, while meeting new friends. I am a TOTAL novice at this...I am actually from a dance background. I am doing this because my new boyfriend is a SUPER keen cyclist (the kind who does a couple of hundred miles a weekend and "a quick 25 mile shakedown ride after work" during the week!) and of course it's something I'd like to do with him (but not quite to that extent!). I am half Dutch, so cycling is in my blood anyway. I haven't cycled since I was a little kid with a bike that you pedalled backwards to stop! Did I mention I was a novice? LOL! Now I am the proud owner of a lovely new LeMond Reno (courtesy of said b/f who is very excited that I am the first girlfriend who would try this with him) for when I am in the US on country roads, and a Trek Hybrid for running around Toronto. This is also the first year I have EVER watched the Tour de France every day and become addicted to it!

Anyway, so far I've been on a few rides, the longest of which was about 25 miles, at 13mph. I definitely hope to learn and do much more and look forward to getting to know the people on this forum.

Cheers,
Jessica

Boyfriend got you a LeMond Reno? Wow, he's a keeper.....(or if you break up, try to keep the bike!) Not serious.

Ya it's very fun, and you have a nice bike, that really helps to get and keep a person cycling. I think he is lucky to have a g-friend willing to share his interests.
A great thing is the sports, activities you share with your mate.

Many cyclist don't ride with, and that can be a little sad.

Kinda funny, I've gotten very serious about cycling for just over a year, now i'm checking out girls legs, I'm single..so i'm looking for a girl with strong legs.
My new come on seems to be "You have beautiful legs, nice muscle tone- you cycle?"

Have you tried mountain biking? Harder than road, but really nice for a couple to do.
Long trail rides and a campfire. Fun.

Hope your interest in cycling grows. It's also a super health choice as exercise.

LOL! Jeff! I'm glad to hear he got me a good bike! :D I also get compliments on my hybrid, which I gracefully accept, but can't take any of the credit.

I know what you mean about checking out the legs. I actually come from the dance world, and have been looking at beautiful legs my whole life, and have found that dancers and cyclists have very simimar physiques, so if you can't find a cyclist, try a dancer! Anyway, I have a whole new appreciation for male cyclists. mmmmmmm! :)

I have never tried mountain biking (I already had enough of a beating from the clipless pedals...one thing at a time!) but my b/f mountain bikes a fair amount. It does look like fun. Exhausting, but fun.
