Okay. My husband is looking for a new road bike after having a Raleigh Technium for 13 years. He used to do a lot more riding but we seem to be on our tandem more often than not. But he still enjoys getting out on solo rides or with a buddy. Right now it looks like it is between a Giant OCR 1 and Trek 1200 or 1500. I don't ride much at all on my single but we recently bought an OCR3 for me. I love it. Anybody have any advice or comments on which would be a better bike? We don't want to spend big bucks on a new bike but he doesn't want to shortchange himself either. Thanks for the advice!

as everyone on this board will say, ride both bikes and see which one fits you better. This is a understatement...

both companies are large and not going to go down the drain and file chapter 11 anytime soon. Both stand behind their products. The only thing you can do is decide by 1) appearances 2) fit.

Assuming your body is pretty regular, you shouldn't have problems getting either bike to fit. Some people throw down the gauntlet and say "THIS BIKE DOESNT FIT ME" and pick their bikes without ever spending time to fit it properly and end up pickin the one that just randomly happens to fit better on the first try.

seems like the OCR 1 is a better comparison to a 1500 than a 1200. Quite a big jump from Ultegra/105 components and Tiagra.

as everyone on this board will say, try to get at least a shimano 105 group if you can afford it.

Thanks everyone for the replies. I really appreciate the feedback and will keep in mind. I laughed at the last advice - "get the madone." Yeah, sure!!!
