Mountain Biking - The Official "What I Hate About the New Forum Upgrade" thread...

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Well...for starters, here's what I look at when I log in away from home:

Not to mention the fact that I can't even add attachments to BF's server. I think I need to update something that I don't have administrative rights to do.

Way to go vBulliten!!!!

Look at the "smileys" on the right of my second pic. Some are fine some are all jacked up. Why can't they all be either one way or the other?!!

Time to quit using AltaVista 1.2, Ed.

:D

Seriously, which version of IE are you running at home? Mine acts hinkey but not that bad. Behaves much better in FireFox but I'm still not impressed.

This is not from home.

My home PC looks fine...and blue. (Windows 7 with latest IE) Why the crap is it brown here?

My phone (opera / IE mobile) even looks normal...

This is not the Official thread for bashing the new design. Official threads can only be started by ddac or denismenchov...

BTW: I only use Firefox or Chrome usually, but I checked IE8 in Windows 7 and it wasn't brown. You need to go to Tools, Options, Advanced, then uncheck the box in the Display subsection that reads "Display CSS in diarrhea colorway"

Guess who's been writing knowledge base articles all day...

Some mods are noting problems with ugly/overlapping/misplaced crap too. I wonder if some firewalls are garbling things. But then, since I work in a black hole of firewalls, you'd think mine would look that bad too. Hmmmm. . . ..

Man...you AND D are having brainPHart issues today.

This is not on my home computer, helmut. And it's...you're gonna laugh...IE6.__:lol:

Ya know...I tried Chrom and Firefox, but for some reason neither one of them would work well. a good 40-50% of the time I would get the DNS error or cannot locate server. Then I'd have to reload or even restart the browser. IE worked every time, so I stuck with it.

I have Firefox on my U3 drive. That's actually what I'm using now, and everything looks normal.

Odd

Browsers are angry little buggers. I use Chrome at home and it's the best browser I've ever used, but on my computer at work, it runs slow as molasses on the same build of Windows 7.

Also, IE6 is a gruesome trainwreck.

I used FF for a long time (except for one or two sites that didn't support it), but switched back to IE when Micro$oft fixed the security issues becuase of said websites and better performance. Funny, that FF seems to have become the defacto standard now. I have no stats to back it up, but I'd guess their user base has far eclipsed IE's now, and the vast majority of programmers design for it, so maybe I should switch again.

Ed, I haven't tried it, but I believe you can install browsers to a jump drive and have it with you wherever you go if you want to take the geek factor that far.

The search function sucks ass. I typed in the exact title of a thread, and I mean EXACT, and it didn't find it.

I use Chrome too. And I've had a "First page button" issue, which sends me to the forum index instead of actually the first page of a thread.

Should rename this to the "Official Thread of the Literacy Challenged"!!

Just kidding guys...but really.

I can probably see why 4evrpln didn't "get it" b/c some people don't know what a U3 drive is. It's a "jump drive" with U3 programming. (portable applications...that can run from your flash drive) Exactly what I was talking about with FireFox on my U3 drive.

As for Dminor and Helmut...they're just a lost cause:lol:

I miss the "last page" option on the index. :(

It's working pretty well for me though. Sometimes clicking last page brings me to the index, but other times it's perfectly fine. Firefox here, though I'm thinking about switching to Chrome.

Database errors...lots of them, all over the place. It's getting better, but it shouldn't have happened in the first place. Anyone ever heard of a non-live test system?

I don't have database errors on BForums.

I think this was noted before, but if you hover over the time of the last post in the 'Last Post' column you will see a little bubble that says 'go to last post,' which takes you to the last page. But for crying out loud, can we be more obtuse?

Criminy sakes, Ed - - bustin' my chops over missing one litle word in your reams upon reams of words . I may not be so kind next time I run across one of your boo-boos.

Then I'd catch hell for too many stickies again :D.

Which, by the way, with the new format there were too many. Shoved the current, active threads 'below the fold.' So I relented and unstuck a couple that were useful but can still be found easily enough via 'search' (provided THAT still works :notamused: ).

when i do that on threads with say more than about 25 pages i often get a database error. I then have to type in a page number near the end of the thread but not the last one listed and work my way from there. lame.

Thats because the forum is adding an extra page to those threads. Like the "general MTB thread" I just posted in it and I am the last poster on page 76 yet when I get there it says there is another page which when you click on the timestamp the stupid software tries to take you there. I figured that would have been resolved when they were doing the upgrades and fixing bugs last night but apparently not. I think I am going to end up taking a few months vacation from this place until they work this **** out and change the colors so my eyes dont kill over trying to read on here. All these little bugs make this place more frustrating than enjoyable anymore.

The broken search function. The general cruddy UI. The reply font size being microscopic. The fubar "last" button. ...

Since the "New Posts" page shows an entire paragraph of each new post, I don't actually click on the titles any longer....I just read the blurbs. (There....THAT should make them change that stupid crap so they get more page-views/$)

Honestly though, I've been unable to reconcile with this horrible new theme/lack of utility/"upgrade" and spend most of my time elsewhere now. You may applaud/breathe a sigh of relief now....
