Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Classic looking, lugged, good quality (thin/lightweight), steel frame(sets) or bikes?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I'm in the market for a thin, vintage looking, light weight, lugged steel frame. Think cinelli super corsa pista, mercian, or all those kierin frames like panasonic and bridgestone. Sky is the limit on price because I just want to see what else is out there but of course cheaper is better. No entry level bikes but whatever the next step up from that is fine. Perhaps, reynolds 631 or columbus type steel quality or greater? Brands and custom builders both welcome. If they are local and/or available for purchase online or in stores, even better (I am in the US and going to the UK to get custom fitted for a custom built bike isnt really realistic for me). Also, I am 6'4 so they'd have to make frames > 60cm. Would appreciate any input!

i just might, brian. i like the specs of the wabi's. pretty hard to find for that price it seems. although wish yall had an aluminum colored frame! Are those clips holding on to the brake cables removable if I wanted to take off the rear brake?

It's not my company, I just got one of their bikes for my birthday. Since they're new, you'd probably be helping them out to stop by and have a look, and let folks on the forum know what you think. They're really sweet bikes, and could use some more word of mouth. And yes, the stainless clips are removable.

heres a post on some other forum that lists a bunch of different track frame makers:

http://www.londonfgss.com/thread527-2.html

i hope i dont get kicked out for posting a link to another forum. if it means anything, i am not a member of that forum and just found it on a google search.

man, it would be great if there was a list somewhere with all lugged track frame makers that used steel comparable to reynolds 725, columbus zona or better!

When Bill was still in SoCal, he was right around the corner from my brother's house. I bought a lot of stuff from him and had it shipped to me in Australia. Excellent service. Wabi is like that too - you can call up the store and owner will provide personal service. We need more businesses like that.

I just found out that they're also going to be offering a fully lugged/brazed frame in red or champagne - $600 for frame/fork, or $925 for the complete bike. If you stop by there in about a week, you'll probably be the first to see it. That would make me a bit jealous.

I can tell you that the steel one is an excellent ride. Same components as the scandium one, different frame material, but they are supposed to have a similar feel. Batavus has one, and posted about it here (http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?537887-Wabi-Cycles&p=10060644&viewfull=1#post10060644).

oh man. wabi was 2nd on my prospects list only because the frame style and materials used for that price. but if they are coming out with a lugged frame next week, that might be enough to put them at number 1 - especially if you could get the fully built for $925.

torelli seems to come in slighter higher at about $750ish for just the frameset.

i like that both seem to have great customer service.

I know the owners of both companies, and agree that their level of customer service is far above the industry norm. But don't own a Torelli, so I don't feel qualified to comment on ride quality. You can't go wrong with either, but I suspect that the Wabi is a better value.

These two are probably not at the same level as some of the frames that have been mentioned before, but I'm just going to throw them out here anyways:

No experience with either of them, I just thought they looked pretty.

the leader lugged frame was in my sights as well but yeah not sure how good it is. i will probably check out wabi and torelli first since their stores are local to me. leader bike is a bit far but in socal nonetheless.

the specialized seems like a good deal for an unlugged steel frame. wabi still comes up slightly ahead because of the better tube material. but then again what do i know... how big of a difference could reynolds 520 and 725 be??!

i agree, the supercorsapista looks nice but that price is ridiculous.
