Foo - Is it weird for a guy to love shoes?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Most of mine are athletic shoes in one form or another... either running shoes, all-terrain, Keen sandals, and a few pairs of Chuck Taylors... is something terribly wrong with me? Discuss.

Not anymore wronger than a woman who is ambivalent about shoes (ie: me) I guess in my case, I aint got the $ to get fancy shoes, so I don't care.

That makes sense.
I think it's weird for anybody to love things. I own shoes. I prefer Sidi cycling shoes, New Balance running shoes, etc, but I don't love them.

Do you like sniffing them? When they are NOT brand new? Than that's weird.

It's probably weird to love shoes.
However, I don't think it's odd to love comfortable feet. For example: Off the top of my head, I can think of 12 pairs of shoes I have.
Three pairs of sneakers/running shoes: 1 at the office (about 10 years old), 1 "beater" for lawn mowing et cetera, and 1 nicer pair
Three pairs of regular shoes: 1 at the office (when I commute, I don't carry shoes), 1 everyday work shoes and one pair of wing tip shoes for special occasions (about 20 years old).
One pair of boots: Gore-tex/leather hiking boots (about 10 years old)
Three pairs of specialty footwear: Deugi road shoes, Diadora road shoes and NRS Neoprene kayaking booties.
Two pairs of sandals: 1 nicer pair of tevas and one knock off pair for warm weather boating/canoeing.
Growing up, I almost never had more than one pair of shoes at a time. Wear one pair (usually something dirt cheap like slip on Vans or Converse All-Stars, back before they were hip and expensive), wear out, rinse & repeat.
I recently realized that that has changed... kind of. I have a bunch of shoes, but most are specialized. Cycling shoes, motorcycle boots, driving shoes*, snowboard boots, work boots, then a pair or two of canvas shoes and a pair of flip flops. So I still only have one or two "daily use" shoes.
* sounds like a ******y thing to have, I know, but I have large feet and drive a small car with a very small footwell.

I'm assuming when you say you love your shoes, you don't mean that you actually "love" your shoes, right?
As I recall, I usually had 2 pairs of shoes as a kid. One for school and one for playing in. From where I'm sitting now I can see 11 different sets of footwear.
Athletic - One pair Chuck Taylor's, Two pairs hiking, one pair running
Dress - One pair, black oxfords
Boots - One pair, steel-toed, two pairs, Dr. Marten, one pair, cowboy
Cycling - One pair, SPDs
Flip flops - One pair
And out of sight are my ghillie brogues for when I'm wearing me kilt.
12 pairs of shoes, what would me dear ol' mother say.

I don't like to think about how many shoes I have, but at least each pair has a purpose, and I have a lot fewer than my housemates.
Hmm...now I'm trying to remember
1 x tennis shoes for everyday
1 x old tennis shoes for yardwork
1 x Sketchers for work
1 x dress shoes
1 x sandals for around the house/summer
1 x cheap, uncomfortable flip flops
1 x hiking boots
1 x safety boots for work
2 x soccer cleats
1 x indoor soccer flats
1 x running shoes
1 x cycling cleats
1 x ski boots
14 pairs...that's embarrassing. Growing up I had one pair of tennis shoes and a pair of barn boots.
* My housemate raved about how amazingly cheap flip flops were in Brazil, and how the thing for tourists to do was buy a pair for all their friends since they were so cheap, but google said the price he quoted equaled about $10, or the same as Old Navy flip flops. These are single-color hard plastic. Bleh.

Oh doh... I didn't even think about cycling shoes.
Yeah, my feet sweat a lot so I try to keep pairs rotated...
no, it;s not. Unusual, maybe.
I don't have alot of shoes right now (for me):
3 prs dress shoes
3 prs casual shoes
3 prs boots
5 prs running shoes
7 prs biking shoes
I pr beach shoes (espadrilles types)
at my peak of insanity I probably had over 100 pairs.

Shoes? Yeah, I've got a few pairs...
Adidas are my favorites: nza high tops, hemp high top skate shoes, hemp low top skate shoes, tennis shoes, 2x running shoes, and copa mondial soccer cleats. Then off the top of my head I've got the following still in the rotation: retro looking new balance running shoes, asics running shoes, converse all star high tops, converse jack purcell, vans sk8 high, vans old school skate shoes, nice black wingtips, suede bucks to go with the seersucker suit, dr. marten boots, timberland hiking boots, timberland titanium toe work boots, redwing goretex steel toe work boots, rockport trail hiking shoes, airwalk low tops, sanuk shoes with flip flop soles, simple low tops, half a dozen pairs of flip flops, two pairs of piloti driving shoes and of course two pairs of shimano cycling shoes. That's like 26 plus the flip flops...

Yes, though these might grow on me if I had a pair.

I appreciate boots, but neither have the funding, or the current lifestyle to wear them.
I almost purchaased these.

this. When I was younger had tons of boots, for the motorcycle and for snow - neither of which are in my life at present, so even three pairs of boots is overkill for me right now.
Boots were def. the most expensive part of my shoe collection...Out of 100ish pairs alot of them were converse All Stars in various colors, or other brands of similar sneakers. But I had a lot of everything back then!

last time I looked it appeared to be so... from Tuesday night, hanging out with a friend in DSM who was also the conga player in jazz band with my senior year... he's an awesome guy, which makes sense due to the fact I am Simply Awesome:

I don't get the love affair with shoes - man or woman. They are just shoes, something to protect my feet. Get a few good pairs that do the job and that's it. I can honestly say I have spent more money on my cycling shoes than other other foot attire. Next were my hiking boots. Work or casual footwear... if it's practical fine. If not, I don't bother.
But to each their own... if footy stuff gets you off... more power to you!

I don't "love" my shoes, but I do like good comfortable dress shoes (Steve Madden), and sneakers (Etnies), and casuals (Timberlands), and what I like to call "Jesus sandles!" (Navados) LOL! I only own one pair of each.

Do you guys who have only a few pairs of shoes wear a pair until they are toast and then throw/give them away or what? I tend to buy new shoes when the current ones are starting to look old but are still wearable, then I just keep the old ones too and break them out every now and then since they are still wearable. That's why I have so many shoes...

I usually give them away to my oldest daughters friends while they still have a few miles left on them, her friends have no shame! (which is a good thing!) they'll gladly take a freebie when offered! LOL!

Trust me, the question may sound a little 'off', but it's legit; my 'mixed' nephew, ghetto to the max, has more shoes NOW than I've had in LIFE, and I'm 50! Somebody once got him a $100 gift certificate for the mall, and he (at 10!) promptly spent the whole thing on ONE pair of shoes!
slim, I'm a "few-shoes" guy, and I wear mine OUT! If they're good enough to wear, they're good enough to keep.
Think I've given away 2 pairs of shoes in my life. Both hurt my feet after a few hours.
