Folding Bikes - This place seems to have become a ghost town..

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Is it just me, or do others think this site is very quiet since the site has been “upgraded”? :(

Oh and I liked to look of the old forum much better than this new version.

When I post a new topic, the “Message box” is hidden way over to the right of my 22” monitor... I have to scroll right to find it.

Not a very good upgrade

Usually winter will see an increase in traffic, after the holidays.

Posting replies is a PITA. You hit the reply button, they you have to hit the go advanced button to get to where you can make a proper reply.

I am not a huge fan of the new software, but I have to have my daily BF fix so I guess I will just have to live with it.

Yeah, it does feel quiet. I miss some of the regular posters. Do you think that we've covered everything there is to talk about with folders? :D

Seriously, though, maybe it is the winter doldrums. Fewer people riding. Holiday time, etc...

Yup, it's slow.. I noticed immediately after the makeover, the average people viewing this sub-forum dropped in 1/2... there is never many viewing at one time.. low to mid 20's is average.. lately, 10s and 12s... so this post is representative of approximately 10% of the viewers ..

Well, I haven't been around as much lately, but don't blame the new software. It's just... I don't know, it seems we've talked about everything that needed to be talked about, most of them many times over, and there doesn't seem to be that much new going on. Like... well, nothing new, it seems to me.

It's not as user friendly - so I don't spend as much time here.

Whole forum seems down on posts lately.I dont really care for new format, but Safari seems to work ok.on it.So for me its not that, but as someone already said, how much more can be discussed that hasnt already been beat to death?

There are probably a few people put off by the new cite. With regards to people who remember Coffee, we have covered much.

From what I have noticed on the Folding Aframe Forums (on Yahoo) over the last 7 years, it's the newcomers asking questions and the more experienced members responding that seems to generate the most traffic. [YES, we also have a Folding Trailer in addition to our Folding Bikes and Folding Boat - a Zodiac Mk II Compact).]

How does traffic compare to this time last year??? Maybe with the great world & U.S.economies folks aren't looking to buy as much stuff as before?

Maybe it's people forgetting their password and figuring they'll retrieve it later?

Well the issue for me is that since they went to this new "platform", it is sometimes hard for me to get on the forum because it's just too slow or it simply won't let me in at all, and I'll just say, "screw it!", and go on to something else. Funny thing is that some days, it'll work for me like the old platform but that is not very often.

The other assertion that much of what was to be discussed, has, but there is always something new to talk about.

Bottom line is that I won't be hanging around as much as I used to, but I'll still try to take a look at least once a day, as long as the site will let me in. Lately, I am spending a lot of time on a kick scooter forum in Yahoo Groups, and if you think about it, those are "folders" too. :D

i have been around forums a bit ..... remember when the Internet didnt have any pictures ?

usually it takes some time if a forum changes to get everybody back. it all depends on the quality and helpfullness of the participants to keep a forum alive and well .
And despite the seldom found heckling, this forum is one of the best. NO doubt. The folks here have a positive passion which is seldom found.

The format might agrevate us old timers a bit but sometimes change is not all a bad thing ,,,, and sometimes its plain necessary .... Now I only wish that our politicians (also the lately elected ones) would change their ways and get things going, not only the promised parts but also the stuff which just plain makes sense, instead of going back and more back to old ways ... see ... change is good :-) dont you agree ?

It puzzled me in the last 18 months or so how people equate 'change' with 'good change'.

Breaking a leg is a bad change. Getting a new Speed Pro TT for Christmas is a good change. ;-)

Actually, I think it's my fault or should I say lurkers like me:rolleyes: We should come up with more topics in the future to sustain the flow of this or any other thread. Just saying.

I can no longer create post with Internet Explorer. It seems like the back lash against Microsoft is in full swing. The New and Better Bike Forums likes Google Chrome so in a five years, you'll need 20 different browsers just to surf the net instead of one. ;-(

Okay, well, lets have a Dahon vs. Brand X comparison thread, trial by FREERIDE.

What bombs a drop better? A Speed D7 or a Downtube Nova?!

Which one cuts up the half pipe better? Only a gruesome showdown will determine the truth!!

Each successive version has improved its compatibility with web standards. Get rid of 6 - you'll find fewer and fewer sites that will work properly with it. 7 is better, 8 is better still.

Of course, I'm typing this with Firefox 3.5.5, and I haven't had the troubles with the new software that some have reported. Not entirely bug-free - the next and previous page within a thread buttons don't appear to work - but clicking the page number does.

Hmmmm. I use the same version of Firefox, and those buttons work just fine for me. Also, I've been able to access the forum pretty easy lately. I hope I didn't just "Jinx" myself.

I use to visit here everyday (its still bookmarked) but ever since the upgrade to the forum software, it has turned me off. Reading the forum seems more difficult. FWIW, a golf forum I visit also upgraded the forum software but was able to maintain the appearance of the old one making the transition much easier. Perhaps there's an evolutionary lesson here.

I haven't been about for a bit because I moved, but despite setting the date for 2 months after the builders promised to finish, I was in temporary accomodation for 2 months with no phone line, so no broadband, and a mobile dongle which didn't work.

I came back to find it all looks different. How long was I away?!

3.5.6 here - seems to work OK. New Forum software is different, but not that big a deal after a while.

Sort of like coming back here to Ventura after a 15 year absence - some restaurants are the same, most are gone or a bit different.

Then again, will be 67 in a couple of weeks, so it's likely at this point that change just seems normal. :D

I do miss the old forum set up, but this one is liveable. Besides, I don't visit other bicycling forums. Maybe I should. Any suggestion?
