Does it really matter? None of them are really proper "brands" anyway.

No, they are all proper "brands". Branding had little to do with the manufacturer. If they look identical, it is very likely that each of these companies is buying cranks from the same manufacturer, each marked with their own brand.

My point exactly. In the old days branding, design, and manufacture were connected. At the very least, an element of design would be interesting.

If they are all identical, the branding is meaningless. I would love to see more bikes that use different lugs (without spending a fortune), or cranks that had a bit of character to them-- like some classic lines or pantographing.

Branding is not completely meaningless. The company with the brand is the party responsible for customer service, warrantee issues, etc. Even if the product is identical, some brands can be better than others.

Its fork ends have quite a bit of character--- wish more companies did that sort of thing.

I thought they looked really nice too, but 500 bucks for a regular cro-mo frame? You can get a soma rush made with tange prestige for the same price...

They also use the odd Surly style sizing--- 3cm increments--- and an indecipherable geometry chart (how do they actually measure the TT? In midair well above the seatpost where it will be much longer than an actual TT size?). And seat tube from bottom to center?

But prestige is basically just a branded, heat-treated 4130 cro-mo, if I am not mistaken.

I read somewhere that it's more like reynolds 631. apparently the rear triangle of the rush is 4130 though.

A lot of rears are "different" than the rest of the frame. I have always assumed it is just the main triangle that is branded tubing.

wtf are you talking about?
or do you not know how to read geometry specs?

Unfortunately, I do know how to read geometry specs.

The red lines (my edits) reflect the normal actual measurements... their Line C is extended a few cm due to the angle of the seat tube. Strange.

It's called an "effective top tube" and any bike with a sloping tt will be measured like that. Most manufactures include both measurements though.

I still don't understand why you think the ST is measured bottom to top. What ever.

An effective top tube is generally not measured from mid air above both the head tube and seat tube.
