I am currently taking a four week big rig truck school, and my teen-age daughter is using my car to go to work at a summer job. So I have taken to commuting by bike. It has been a good experience. The trip is 15 miles round trip, and I can make it one way in 17 minutes. Thus far, I have ridden over 300 miles and saved $25-30 on gasoline. I am also getting in more miles than I usually do. Typically, I try to ride 50 miles a week, but now that I am commuting, I am doing over 75. At age 66, it seems like my daughter should be using the bike to go to school, and I should be driving. But that is another story.

Congratulations! What a great way to improve your health, and set an example for your daughter too.

Wow! Congrats!

I wish my inactive older parents could take your example and start riding. I swear, they both have bikes and don't ever ride. My mom even "lost" her bike in the condo building somewhere. She can't remember what floor she left her bike on! :(

Ride on, and right on!

I am proud to be a commuting cyclist!

RA!

:D

Seems I see more and more cyclists my age or over out there. Talk about exploding myths.

By the time girls become teenagers, most stop riding bicycles basically at the same time they stop riding skateboards. The "image" problem is even greater with girls than it is with boys and then there's the safty problem. A lone woman on a bicycle is a greater target than you can imagine. Sadly. It's the men who make this situation.
