Bicycle Mechanics - new durace sti front derailleur cable

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I can't get the front derailleur cable out of the sti? I removed the tiny screw and cover plate but there is a plastic thing around the cable head that I can't remove. I removed the other tiny screw holding the front cover plate and began removing the larger screw inside but then things started coming apart so I stopped before it all came undone. I thought this would be easier than this.

Not sure if this is the problem but the STI lever must be in the small ring position before the cable can be removed. Grab the cable and pull on it while jabbing the small downshift lever to make sure the STI lever internals are in the fully down shifted position. After you have the cable in the proper position you should be able to see just push the cable back through to remove.
Good luck.
