Don't know if the snow is still there, but it hit this morning. Looks like roads were closed to vehicles, but it would probably be an amazing ride.

Bunch of snow up on Hamilton this morning, too. Might drive up there this evening and check it out. I was up at the top on Saturday and it was freeeeeezing at 3 in the afternoon or so.

Heck, there was some snow on the ground outside my house in San Ramon this morning. Briefly.

Looks like roads were closed to vehicles, but it would probably be an amazing ride.

If the road is closed to vehicles, it is probably also closed for bicycles. A few years ago, the road was closed at Juniper (2 miles from the summit) because of snow. I tried to ride my bike around the barricade but the ranger stopped me and said "No bikes". They were letting pedestrians up, but not bikes. Makes sense. Pedestrians and dogs walking up the snow-covered roads and bicycles coming down do not make a good mix.

Snow, at lease some, will still be there tomorrow since temps are expected in the mid 20's overnight. Perhaps the road will be open then.

Looking foward to the view during my morning commute!

Not quite as nice as Gpelpel's - this was about noon, just as the clouds were clearing.

I won't be able to make it up until this weekend.
There was snow all the way down to the Gate - lowest I've ever seen it (in a CoCoTimes reader photo).

I have some free time in the morning, tempted to break out my really cold weather riding stuff and take a ride up as far as i can go. We'll see......

Took a ride up there this morning, after the Mt. D. hotline confirmed that the road was open at least to the Junction. I made the mistake of listening to everyone else's opinions on what I should wear, and was way too hot by the time I started climbing. Took the jacket off - the sun was out and it was just right for some climbing with a long sleeve jersey, base layer, knee warmers, wool socks and long finger gloves. Since I already had a pretty good idea that the I was only going to the junction, I did my intervals right off the bat, and during recovery would stop and snap some photos. Sure enough, I got up to the junction and the road was closed. I hit some patchy wet stuff, but no ice on my ride up, but folks coming up from the Northgate said it was worse on that side (makes sense, since I had a SW exposure). Of course, clouds rolled in while I was at the junction, so the descent was a bit chillier than the climb up. The thermometer at the Junction read 40 degrees on the nose.

View of the mountain from Crow Canyon Rd, around 10:30.

No snow as I approach the South Gate Ranger Station, but you can see some on the East Bay hills in the distance:

Finally! some snow along the road as I approach Rock City:

View of the Summit from the Curry Point trailhead - snow seems to be melting fast, at least on the southern exposure:

Any shady, protected parts of the road became wet and slick as I got up closer to the junction:

End of the line - road closed past the junction (and plenty of rangers to make sure no one kept going!) - lots of folks up there enjoying the snowfall:

This girl was going to have to do some hiking from the junction before she could use those cross country skis!

Edit - for some reason I can't link to my photos anymore on photobucket - it will only let me stick these clickable thumbnails in. I'm not liking this "upgrade"! Click on a photo to see a higher resolution version.

The snow is sticking pretty good. I was surprised to see snow on the Las Trampas peaks today, first time I see snow on these.

George, that's a delightful video. Well shot and edited. The camera movement is really nice, and I love the light.
Is she studying video or film or something related? This is way too nice for casual messing about with video.

This is not my daughter's video but from a friend of hers.
Many students called each others and got together on campus at 2am when it was snowing hard. The guy who shot the video, edited it during the rest of the night and put it on-line in the morning. Monday was also start of finals, crazy kids.

I agree with you it's very well done. The author must be studying filming, he has posted other videos on YouTube.

That girl with the cross country skis I took a photo of - she went all the way to the summit! From the local paper:

As of Thursday afternoon, Summit Road is open to Juniper. They might close the park though if they get the freezing rain that's in the forecast. Should be cold enough to keep the snow up there well through the weekend.

Talked to some colleagues in Minnesota today - four below zero and 6" of new snow.
