68 years, wow.

And by far Spielberg's and Belushi's most unfunny movie. It is very difficult to make a funny movie about war... even MASH had a hard time being funny as a TV show.

And I'm not anti-war; often it is, unfortunately, necessary, because IMHO the inherent nature of humans is to be violent and tribal.

We will never be able to pay the proper respect to the persons that fought and died in WWII. All we can do is remember them with dignity.

who gives a flying monkeys about the tv show? the genius was in the movie, and if you want funny, or more appropriately, the absurd, then go see catch 22, or three kings, or altman's M*A*SH*

We had a small ceremony with the local PH Survivors chapter. They rang the bell a few times for members that passed in the last year.

MASH was set in Korea.

I agree the movie was great. In fact, my Dad was for 30 years the film editor of a local TV station and for my 15th birthday he brought a projector and the unedited version of M*A*S*H home for the birthday party. I was was the hero of my group of friends for at least a month.

We can add Full Metal Jacket and Apocalypse Now to the realm of the absurd. I love that scene in AN where you see Coppola yelling "pretend you are in a movie!" Classic.

At a squadron reunion, I had the honor of meeting a couple of the guys from the 47th Pursuit Squadron who launched with their P-40 Warhawks into the fight hungover, outnumbered, with no plan and emerged with 7 kills. The squadron bar has numerous pictures of Wheeler Field and Pearl Harbor from Dec. 7th and these crusty old guys could point out where they were, what they were doing, and and how they reacted like the event occured yesterday.
