Does anyone know of any frame building classes in or around Seattle? I know UBI down in Oregon has, based on what I've read, a pretty good class. However, I'd prefer to do something where I don't have to take off a lot of time at work, if possible. Any thoughts?

Just to clarify - UBI now has a branch in Portland, just so you're aware. I know that's still not Seattle but a little closer than Ashland or Medford (I forget which), which is their HQ.

UBI-Portland is not yet offering framebuilding classes. They're still getting the location set up (it's about 3 blocks from where I work- yippee!) so they might be offering them in the furure.

Yeah I had heard about the UBI location in PDX, but I'm trying to find a location where I don't have to rent a hotel room and stay for 2 weeks. I'm guessing that I'm going to be out of luck but I figured it's worth asking.

Seattle has quite a few amateur as well as professional frame builders, you might ask about lessons on the framebuilders forum, or on the framebuilders mailing list http://www.phred.org/mailman/listinfo/framebuilders

Ti Cycles taught a frame building class back in the early '90s, no idea if any shop-affiliated builders in town currently offer a regularly scheduled class, but you might also ask about one-off or apprenticeship opportunities.

Putnam,

I read online that Ti closed their shop up in the U District a year or two ago and when I called their number for their Seattle shop the number was disconnected. I will try contacting a couple frame builders here and see what I can come up with.

I just noticed that on the website for R&E Cycles, home of Rodriguez bikes, they advertise frame-building classes, and TiG-welding classes.
