I have seen a couple articles on the web saying 2009 was not a good year for games.
While I think there is some truth in that, I am not sure if it applies to me.
I haven't played Modern Warfare 2 yet, but I am very much looking forward to it.
I did try the demo of Need for Speed Shift and I was impressed. It adds a number of small improvements that take casual racing sims to the next level. Frakking awesome.
There was a review today in the NYT of Assasins Creed 2. It's a rave review. I don't usually like criminal games like Grand Theft Auto. But this one sounds different, like
a Dan Brown novel set in renaissance Italy.
As expectations rise, so have costs. Add a lousy economy, and you have a tough times
for a small video game company. The flip side, of course, is that video games have become serious business with big budgets and a potential to make hundreds of millions.
Of course, the flip side of that coin is the slow merging of the industry. Companies have to make games run on multiple platforms and that introduces a Lowest Common Denominator. DX11 is out and video games have yet to start using DX10, they are waiting for the next gen of consoles.
Not that PC gamers with a good video card are suffering, just that there is potential for better. Better graphics, more complexity in game play, etc.
But having said all that... I am still looking forward to trying the games I mentioned.
