Around here when anyone goes out in bad weather they put on their Carharts. I usually wear ski pants when I'm riding below freezing. I wear a thick, cotton, insulated Carhart-like shirt as my outer shell when it's not raining and it works great. I was just wondering if anyone has tried the bibs for biking.

I have a pair for working outside in winter, they are too restrictive for me to ride in.(hard to bend knees)

Not the bibs specifically, but I'll second the heavy cotton outer layer, lined with wool. My pants are made by Duluth, and at 10 degrees F and below, they are perfect over my regular work pants. I bought them oversized so I could put them on over my shoes, so there's plenty of material around the knees - I like the idea of bibs to keep them up. I also wear a heavy cotton anorak over a thick wool layer at those temps. No other outer shell releases the body perspiration/moisture as well. The Eskimos had it all figured out, and modern man came along with our petrochemical shells and our advertising and messed it all up and took our money...
