Was looking at the book review of the NYT. While no one book stood out,
it was a collection of reviews worth reading. There's a history of Communism that a number of righties here ought to read (so they'll have some idea what the word means at long last).

There's a review of a new biography of Satchmo, books about Google, the rise of China, and one about Patricia Highsmith (never heard of her before the review.)

The Atlantic is going to sell it's short stories on Kindle. I would pay to keep them off. I subscribe, but I really dislike their fiction.

I buy a lot of cookbooks. I rarely use them, basically buying ingredients I feel like cooking with each day. An exception is Food for Friends by Barbara Kafka. Good recipes that are interesting twists on classics. You don't need to devote the whole damn day for them. The one I use most is her recipe for Dirty Rice. Think I'll make it tonite. There was a review in the Times that reminded of it.

There was a rave review of the game Assasins Creed 2 yesterday. The reviewer made it sound like a Dan Brown novel set in Reanaissance Italy.
Worth a read even if you've never played a game in your life. I found it surprising that they gave an enthusiastic review of a video game, that
a game brought history to life (after a fashion) and that it got me interested in a genre (criminal games like GTA) that I usually avoid like, well, the plague.
