Road Cycling - I am now officially a double "purist"

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

So I finally got rid of my triple crank Oryx road bike and moved to a Fuji Team SuperLite which as a Double ultegra crank.. so I guess officially I have moved into the purist category as coined by I think Greg Lemond a few years back...

good deal too, 2004 Fuji Team SuperLite with FSA crank, full carbon fork, Full ultegra grupo.. All for $999

Are there any advantages to a double? How much harder is the easiest gear on your average double setup than a triple? Cause while I don't use my lowest gears that much, I do find them neccesary on certain climbs around here...

Why do they call them purists?? I bought a double, and want out. I have 53/39 and 12-23t. Hopefully my legs will be whipped into shape and will become pure.

oh sorry, I wasn't holding out.. i just wasn't online :)

it was offered locally here in Denver area at Bicycle Village shops... I thought it was a misprint in a newspaper ad.. the sales guy thought it was too.. but sure enough it was true.. the ad only said it as for a 56cm size.. which was my size :D but when I came back a second time to pick it up, the guy offered my friend the same bike in another size..
They have a web site.. but it's a local chain.. www.bicyclevillage.com you might wanna call to see if they'll still honor the price. if I can find the ad, i'll post it.
