Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - fuji obey frame quality?

they are selling the fuji obey frames on ebay in a bunch of different sizes for a whole lot less than they were last year. looks like about $350 will get you frameset shipped anywhere in the US. im not too excited about the black and gold and not too sure how good the steel is, but for a lugged frame, it seems like an OK deal. plus i could always change those gold headset pieces to make it a solid black bike. has anyone here had any experience with these frames??? or any thoughts in general about this frameset?

A couple of my friends ride the fuji obey bikes. For $350, its not a bad deal for a complete bike. The gold parts are hideous though. Some of my friends like that look. To each his own.

its actually just the frameset for $350.... do you think its not worth it then?

Oh. I should have read your post. sorry. For the frame only, it's not a bad price. Like I said, I dont have a personal experience with them. But my friends have been riding them. One does tricks on his so he abuses it pretty much. They seem to be happy with it.

You should look around for other frames at the same price range. I know they won't be lugged, but they are still really good quality. Another lugged frame which seems to be really good quality is the soma delancey. check it out. it used to be the van ness i think.

I actually bought the complete bike from the same seller during the bing cashback deals, and I recently received and built it up. I can't offer a long term report but the lugged frame feels solid after a quick test ride. I'm not sure what specifics you are looking for, but I really dug the black/gold theme of the complete and wanted the brooks swift that came with it. This bike is definitely light although I haven't put it on a scale, I would put it between my aluminum cross bike and ti road bike. I'll try to answer any more specific questions you may have...

I'd say you could get something else a bit nicer for the money. Iro, Wabi, Pake, Mercier, SE (which offers the same frame as mentioned above) all can likely do better. However, I've only looked one over, I haven't ridden the Fuji, so I'd certainly defer to someone who has.

Edit: Comes with a Brooks Swift? That might tip the scale a bit.

is it really? it has different geometry though. i would think its just a lugged version of the fuji track classic because it has the same exact geometry

I think it is the lugged version of the fuji track. Looks exactly the same, but with lugs. I will try to take a picture of the fuji track right next to the fuji obey. I have never seen a SE Lager IRL, so I dont know if it is the same frame

Finally saw a Fuji Obey in person. It is the same as an SE premium brew. Only difference I saw was no cable guides on the TT, fork wasn't drilled for a brake. The new premium (ale?) doesn't have cable guides but has a different fork. Same frame, same factory (maxway stamp)?

Same thing as the SE. I've got a PB frame and a guy I print for has the OBEY. They're both Maxway frames (where the Fuji Track Classic is not) and identical with the exception of stops.

I'm pretty impressed by my Maxway frame as well. And I got mine from a friend for two shared pitchers of cheap beer!
