Here is a how-to article on converting an antique acetlylene bicycle lamp to high power LED, It works fantastic.Enjoy. Don't forget page two which has a custom brass tail light.

I know a guy who commutes with a carbide/acetylene lamp on his bike. It's pretty cool. Not sure how many lumens it puts out.

If I want an LED I'll buy one, and not wreck a beautiful piece of equipment like that.

The lamp was no museum piece (dings dents), and I'd rather use it for this purpose than have it sit on a shelf collecting dust. I would do it again in a heartbeat, with an even better example. And I may:D.

I was testing the unit last night, when you run all three of the 540 lumen units at the same time it really eats the power in the batteries, but man does it kick out the light. The batteries recharge very well though, and the heat sink seems to do an excellent job too.
