Last Saturday....The guy in the kit is JohnR form the Socal forums. He did a 40 miler with us eventhough he places near the top of the list in local timed climbing centuries. Plus he's a Mt Everest 2007 champion tandem division (26,000ft in 2 days ??) He wanted to hang with us on a ride cause he says it looks like we're always having fun.:D

Last Sunday...Lady in black (Julie) was 700 miles short of 15,000 for the year on her trusty hybrid. That was last Sunday, she rides everyday.

Yep, it may be a bit chilly (by usual SoCal standards) but it's beautiful!
I rode a couple days ago and sure wished I'd taken the arm warmers along. When I left home it was sunny and 58 degrees; on the way home three hours later it was nearly sunset and 52.
Nothing keep you pumping when you're tired like knowing that stopping is the wrong thing to do!

Today's ride was just about perfect -- sunny and 59 degrees. The sun on the ocean was just gorgeous. Looks like the trainer in the garage will get some attention for the next few days with rain in the forecast.

It was in the low 30's here today with a headwind of about 25 mph. I don't mind the wind or the cold...but when both gang up on ya it isn't fun.

My morning commute these days is hovering around 0 (Farenheit). This morning was actually quite gorgeous as I rode along the river, chunks of ice floating by, with steam rising from the water. It was peaceful as I was the only one stupid enough to be out riding in that weather, and I got to watch the gentle flakes of frozen fog falling around me. When I pulled back onto the street I had to stop for a traffic light and was forced to remove my glasses because my breath had frozen to them and without the breeze from riding to keep it under control, they were iced up and I could no longer see through them.

Even though it is very cold, it is also unlike any experience you get when riding in the fair weather months.

I love my cold weather commutes, the cold wind in my face motivates me to pedal harder. I get some funny looks around here, biking in a foot of snow when the temperature is 0 and the wind chill is -20, but that's when I get my best workouts. There isn't much better motivation than battling mother nature, showing her that its going to take more than a little cold weather, some wind, and a bunch of snow to keep me off the road.

It's 29,000 feet in two days. I know. I know. Just quibbling. What's a few extra thousand feet anyway.

29,000, I saw that in another post right after I posted. Wouldn't want to cheat the guy, so thanks for the correction. Mine was a guesstimate!:D

Man, although the cold rides you guys do sound like fun, glad I'm Cali spoiled sometimes. Well, most of the time I'm happy about it!:p I'd be the kid getting his tongue stuck to a pole, maybe the handlebars!:D
