Quick qusetion. I have heard many times that on the bike I purchased, which came with 700x25c tires on a 700c rim, I can install 700x23c tires. But, what are some of the problems associated with installing the slightly differant sized tire (23's) when the bike originally came with the 25's?

Yes to the 25 rim to 23 tire; and yes to the 23 rim to 20 tire. BUT, the person that wants to replace a 23 with a 20 tire be careful. The 20 tire on the street is more skittish, in other words will skip on rough surfaces, your not going to stop as quickly, the narrowness of the tire will allow the tire to follow and/or drop into grooves on the street making for some interesting moments, and snake bite damage increases. If your riding (training/commuting) on the street 25's are the best, if your racing on the street 23's are the best, if your racing on a smooth track then the 20's are the best.

Is there really a big problem between riding the 25's and the 23's? I wanted to install some 23's, but are they really that much more difficult to handle than the 25's?

I want them for some good riding/training tires. I only ask, because the LBS has a good deal on them (sale), and that is the only size they have left.

The 23's are ok for street use, but if you want a bit safer tire the 25 is the better tire and/or more suited for street use. The 23's still have a tendency to follow grooves, ruts, and edges, where as the 25 will not nearly as much; also the 25 will stop a tad faster; the 25's will wear longer as well, have less of tendency to suffer from snake bites and be a bit more comfortable due to the increase of air volumn. And for your purposes of riding and training or even commuting the 25 is the best for that. When, or if you ever race then go with the 23's for racing events.
