Glad to see you finally took the hints and had somebody that knows what they're doing work on your bike.

when my bike is in the shop (cold day in hell) I always have my 20" (it'll never see a shop either), you see, if you practice multiple disciplines you will always have options!!!

I went to the doctor today and got my shot of vitriol. Burns like a mofo going in, but golly if it don't keep me going for weeks.

I am not sure if spokes cards are a standard install at most bike shops...but they'll wrap your toptube with one of crustedfish's old innertubes for $60. Fo shizzle

Thank god for Goatmeal - he can usually fix whatever I mess up, and if he can't, I can usually borrow a fixed from him untill I get the parts I need. If worst comes to worst, I've been known to buy one of the ones in his basement...

In defense: I go to the bike shop; What for you ask?

1.) For one time things I don't wanna buy a tool for..

2.) For the free maintenance on the geared road bike. Was included as "life time" so I get free wheel trueing, derailer adjustment etc. Why not?

3.) Things I don't know how to do that I don't want to @#$# up and re do or spend @#$@# cash to redo a million times. Then, I go, pay, but watch and learn.

4.) Wheels. Only because I'm phobic. Though, I've got a set of 27" wheels in the garage that will become my learning fodder.

Nothing wrong with going to the shop....

i don't think anyone is saying that there is...the reason why trackfresh's bike is in the shop is what most people are clowning him on.

C'mon, William. It's what you yell when you have the right answer, say, for someone with new Phil hubs and no wheelbuilding experience. Visit any church basement on a weeknight for further illumination. Or an LBS Tues-Sat.

Hmmm.

Guess I don't go to church social functions that much.

What ever.

I'm sure a lot of us have gotten advice, not taken it, and then hated it later on.

People here are slaming on the guy because he used a Rap style post to say he feels he belongs.

It was stupid, but it shouldn't have such an effect to be long lasting. He's an idiot. He'll learn or move on. We all do.

The bike shop gets a lot of my money. I've only recently started learning to do my own repairs & upgrades. That's partly from a lack of confidence (i.e. if I try to do it myself, and I can't put it back together, I'm going to feel really stupid needing to take my bike to the shop in pieces) and a lack of necessary tools, but mostly from not having other people around that know bikes who I can learn from. Having to admit you can't figure it out yourself can be a bit embarrassing, but being able to watch and learn from someone who knows what they're doing is priceless.

Learned or left?

Cause in that regard, I'm just about the same about learning or leaving..

I've done beat the preverbial horse into paste by now on a few things..

"being able to watch and learn from someone who knows what they're doing is priceless."

learning is not necessarily intrinsic to watching. It is, however, to doing it yourself.

learning is not necessarily intrinsic to watching.

Not saying that it is. But I prefer to have someone show me once, and to be able to ask questions.
