Solid brands would be Cuisinart and Kitchen-Aid. You will not find a large one of them under $100, tho. You could get a 7 cup kitchen aid for around $100.
Oster has a 10 cup for about 80, but I don't know how good it is.

The best thing you could find at that price range would probably be a good, pre NAFTA blender at a Salvation Army, probably for under 10 bucks.
Something from the 60's or 70's that says it was made in the USA, that is probably as good of a machine as you'll find at any price. Not that it will be any better than a modern 500 dollar food processor, but not necessarily worse.
I've never, ever made a habit of shopping at salvation army stores, but was there recently to help a friend get a couch, and I ended up getting one hell of a blender for 6 bucks. It's an old US made glass jar Sears model. Couldn't be happier with the thing.

I have an electric mixer that is handheld, with two beaters from the early 70s that still works fine.
If I had $500 I would buy a KitchenAid stand mixer.

If you have an outlet center near you with a Kitchen Collection or other kitchenware store, check that out. These stores often stock refurbished KitchenAid and Cuisinart appliances. I have seen some really good deals. Also, I just checked on Overstock.com, and they had some combination blenders/small food processors within your price range.
You cannot go wrong with KitchenAid or Cuisinart. I have had my five quart KA stand mixer for 24 years now, and my 11 cup Cuisinart food processor for 15 years. One of the advantages of the name brands is ready availability of parts and accessories.

The seven cup KA is the best bet for under $ 100. It looks as if it will be difficult to find a 10-12 cup unit for under $ 100 unless you go the refurbished route.

Cuisinart and Kitchen-Aid are your best bets. I bought a 11-cup Cuisinart about 3-4 years ago. Still a powerful workhorse. It normally runs about $180, but I was able to use a BB&B 20%, plus rebate going on at the time to end up getting it for about $120.

There's a good Cuisinart one at CostCo for about $120. Works great, and the polycarbonate parts will outlive other brands made from plastic.

one of my neighbors died a few years ago and the kids had a garage sale to get rid of some of her stuff. KitchenAid 6 qt stand mixer for $25:D I don't think they knew what they had.
