I'm looking to buy a small set of rear panniers in the 1,800 cu.in. total capacity range and have narrowed them down to either the XM-28 or the GT-30 Arkels for my mountain bike. This setup would be used mostly for overnight offroad jaunts. Any comments or experiences with between the two? Thanks!

The GT-30's are a fine bag for touring on the road, they may work just as well off road. But the XM-20 is made for off road touring, the extra straps will help to keep them moving along with the bike. Ten pounds of gear trying to move to the right when you need to go left can make for some intersting handling.

We use a pair of GT-30's on the tandem, one bag is our kitchen, and the other is BentbaggerJan's for all the crap she brings along. (She's getting better, no hair dryer on our last trip!)

OK......where in the U.S. is a good/reputable source for ordering Arkels?

I live in the US and I ordered mine straight from Arkel:

No problems at all.

But there is a dealer listing under "prices & ordering".
