How many riders In this Texas forum have actually used the Conti 4000S? Looking for a set of new tires for the spring.

I lived and raced in Texas for many years....anyway I ride GP4000s tires now. I like the ride, and cornering, and life better than my previous favorite ProRace 2. Many friends have tried the ProRace 3 and they cut and flat very easily. PBK has them on sale now.
I use them them around the Dallas area. Great tire over all. Good handling, wear, and (here's the jynx) no flats yet. They currently have about 700 miles on them.

Love my GP4000's. I've got the red and black ones. Outstanding performance, especially cornering combined with excellent durability. Tough to find another tire that rolls as smoothly and is as durable.
I do however, ride on fairly clean roads.

you mean you didn't see a big chunk, or you had an invidible flat and assumed it was glass? One is not like the other.
Use em, love em, but only get the 400s with black chili, which means a straight black tire.

It was a small piece of brown glass from a beer bottle. Heard the glass as I rode over it and the subsequent hiss as the tire was cut. After the tube change, removed all glass I could find from the middle of the road.

PBK has Vred Tri-Comps on sale now (or did, a few days ago) for less than $40. A steal. They're good tires.

I've ridden both for a couple of years 4000 and 4000s. There is no difference at all. The rep told me it's just price. I have not noticed a difference either.

I buy as many of my bike parts and accessories locally as possible. My local LBS's are there for me, so I need to support them. It my cost me more money, but if we do not support them they will not stay in business. My personal philosophy. I did buy 4 Conti 4000s on Friday. They should perform better than my current tires, i hope.

My local LBS also stocks the Conti 4000, I've ridden them ever since I got rid of the initial cheapy tires the bike came with and only really lost 1 to a piece of hidden metal edging around a grown-over planter bed (cut through the bushes after the ramble one year and hit it, tire went flat as I dismounted at the car). The cap was intact, but the sidewall had a gash in it. The rest have all been replaced due to milage.

This tire is really supposed to be an excellent balance between performance, wear, and flat resistance. My current tires are Bontrager Race Lites. I like them, but would like something with more stick. The Conti 4000S should be a good option. The only problem is they will be for my new wheelset. I will regulate the Bontrager SSR's to backup status.

My wife had one of the Bontrager Race Lites split open with less than 300 miles on it. I have been riding Vredentstein Fortezzas for a long time. I am not going to jinx myself by making any definitive statements about how they have performed, other than to say I am VERY happy with them and I am about to buy another set since the current ones have finally worn out.

The Bontrager Race Lites have been pretty good. No flats on the front in 1,800 miles. A rear blew out in August when some unseen metal sliced into it. The between the 2 rear tires only 3 flats in 1,800 miles + major failure. The rear tire seems to pick up little cuts. I bought one more new race lite to hold me until my new wheels arrive. The Gp4000 will go on the new wheels.
