News & Announcements - The OK, I need current updates on any issues you have on the forums software Thread

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

You are at the point we were all at 3-4 months ago. If you follow the threads on the subject, reset and update your browser accordingly you can make this run on kerosene even.
IE 6 even. It's like letting your '48 MG sit the winter with gelled gasoline, you have to fix it.
Good luck and welcome back.
I'm using Firefox 3.5.7. Is that not new enough?

Unfortunately, Camino doesn't have a broad enough user spectrum yet to be a supported browser, so I don't know that much about it, yet.
Fair enough, but this seems to be a newish issue, so something, somewhere changed in the past few months... perhaps you can say roughly when the current board software was launched, it seems to me is was a while ago and I didn't seem to have such an issue until very recently.
Middle of November, IIRC.
It may have already been posted, but when you do a reply or new message, the right rail ad extends over the edit box, obscuring type at the end of a line there..

FWIW I tracked down my issue... apparently it has to do with the ad-blocking my browser does. I DO see ads that are actually added into posts (grrrrr, but I do KNOW BF needs to support itself, it's not like we are showering you guys with $$$).
I caught a post on my browser's forum from a guy having the exact same problem on another board. A small css snippet was suggested, so I changed the domain, popped it into my usercontent.css file and it is now FIXED, so I don't have to hassle turning it off every time I visit!
Oh, JUST in case, Tom here is that snippet should you ever have need to suggesrt it to someone else:
@-moz-document domain(bikeforums.net) {
div[class~="has_ad"] {display: block !important;**

Thank you!
New issues:
When posting a reply from a Quick Reply editor box, I end up in the Advanced Editor with the following message:
If I wait and hit Submit Post it errors on "Duplicate Post" because the reply was actually submitted. Yet if instead I back up to see if it was actually submitted, the post doesn't appear (unless Refresh).
I thought this might be a temporary problem, but it's been going on for around ten days. (Sometimes - like to day - it mostly works okay; sometimes it's on every reply. I see no pattern.)
DMF, we're worrking on the issues you've reported, thanks.
You sure about that? It's been nearly a month now!

They are being worked on at vBulletin, by the development team. They should be fixed in the next upgrade, when that passes the QA process. Essentially, thay are tryong to make sure thare aren't any unintended consequences to the coding changes, and nothing new breaks as a result of the upgrade.

I understand that they are using a controlled development process. But a month between releases is too long, especially when there are such egregious bugs at work.
Having said that, I haven't had the problem today. Was there a release?
I didn't have the problem yesterday. Today it's happening on all my posts.
Okay, not this one.
Still happening.
Tom, has the problem even been replicated and acknowledged?
the time stamp and user name under the thread titles are too large.

I didn't think so but I noted the lead in ABC by Diesel Dan has his chopper cropped my right column items....can't we just set the size and leave a device to enlarge in a new window like the attachments?

by this I mean if you take a look at the forum root dir, the link is bold and blue, while the subtext is a smaller size.
when you pop on over to a subforum, the text for both link to thread and subtext are the same size, which feel inconsistent.

Software updated last night. Is the issue still ongoing?
Still happening.

I'll pass this along.
Is the search function ever going to be fixed?

I think that, as a faith-based concern, Search is a politics and religion subject.
Ok, what's the matter with search? You haven't related an example.

Microsoft adds lay right over the right portion of the fist post so it cannot be read. Firefox 3.6.3, and you can't move or close the pop-up

That's not our ad. You shouldn't be seeing it, even, as a red star member, anyway, if it was ours. You might want to check and see if you had any malware slip in.

Legit or not, I've been hearing Google amd MS may be having a tiff. Clear your cache and log back in to see if you get the floater again.

Clearly you do not use the search function, since you would not have asked. The question then is what is the point of your asking?

Because while far from perfect, search does work. You need to search titles though and use very specific keywords to not get infinite results or none. USe the advanced search, though, as general search will drive yu batty with every attempt.
Advanced Search>Search by Title> Keywords> read results.
You can also advance search by user. You'll get infinite tresults, though if you do, but you will also get a link to their profile, and use that sections "Find All Posts" to get to their specific posts. I know it's clunky, but it is what it is, right now.

Chainring erso sum. I am Rollfast.
Back when I was merely Steven I lucked upon (?) the original TRS-80 in the high school library. For 32 years I've been on a computer.
I may be wrong but I will ask and I will find out as well.
I hope A&S had happy arguments while I was off on my birthday :) I bought stereo equipmant and had lunch with my parents, something I can't do as often with his cancer treatments.
Now, is search killing you?
Hi Tom and Rollfast,
indeed upon a closer examination, the search situation appears better than followed from my past experiences. I have normally used the 'multiple content type' window to which the Advanced Search defaults. That search finds a very limited number of posts, in my case just the started threads, see below:
157488
157487
On the other hand, if I turn to the 'single content type' window, I can pick many and possibly even all posts:
157485
157486

I hate the scroll bars for each message. I get a tiny sliver of a window and have to scroll through the message to read. running Win 7 and IE8
