Bicycle Mechanics - Pedros/Park tool recommendations

I am looking into purchasing a set of tools, for my bike of course, does anyone have any reccomendations?

I thought park made good tools until i owned a set of their blue tire irons (plastics).. Those things bent like...well they bent and were poorly made. Are ther e any good sets with good manufacturing that will last a longtime. Preferably something inexpensive,but i suppose these two qualities are inversely related though...

I have tools by both Park and Pedro's. I am happy with both manufacturers' quality. Plastic tire levers are, by nature, cheap.

I am also looking to tool up now that I am back into cycling.

Performance sells a couple of kits of tools. They seem like a decent deal and fairly complete. Are there any MUST have tools that are missing from these kits? Goog quality tools?

Oh and since everyone else seems to say it no I don't work for Performance.

I don't like "kits" of tools because no brand makes the best of everything and because kits force you to pay for tools you will never use (like headset headset wrenches) while leaving out ones you will need (like a crank puller). Actually, if you only acquire tools as you need them, you'll be surprised at how long you can last with just a set of metric allen wrenches and maybe a cable cutter.

Most of my tools are Park although I own a set of Pedro's allen wrenches (I'd change in a heartbeat if someone would color code the handles) and I use a Shimano cable cutter. I have a variety of tire removal tools but I seldom use any of them. My favorite is a Quickstick

I've got mainly Park Tools and I love 'em. I'm a real stickler for quality and my Park cable cutters are one of my favourite things. No more leaning on pliers to try and cut braided cable. just -CLICK- and perfect ends :).

I've used both and I like both companies about the same. Each has a leg up on the other on certain tools in terms of feel but neither of them is inferior in quality.

If I recall correctly either Park or Spindoctor is made by SnapOn and Pedros is made by Lifu. That being said, I have a lot more chewed up Park cone wrenches at work than I do Pedros. I also like the Pedros cable cutter a lot better. But no one brand makes every tool perfectly.

Hey well I appreciate all the opinions, I will consider purchasing individual tools instead of the pricey sets.
