Hi there,
I'm looking at getting pedals and shoes for my commute into town (15 miles) I like the look of the '04 Specialized Sonomas and I may even be able to pull of wearing them as a casual shoe. Any comments? Should a cycling shoe be worn as a tennis shoe? Thanks.
I've got over 2,000 miles on mine...very easy to walk around in....highly recommended.

I've got sonomas that have over 1200 miles in them. They're pretty good. The bottom is rubber, not lugged like hiking shoes are but very grippy, not slipperly like road shoes. The only thing is the recessed portion doesn't recess enough, there's still about 1mm of the SPD sticking out and that grinds on concrete everyonce in a while as I walk but I don't mind. They're comfortable, walkable, and have a stiff enough sole to be efficient. They do flex a little in the front so walking is comfortable but I wouldn't jog in them.
Get them in black and you should be able to walk around the office no problem except for the large reflective spot on the back.
As for pedals, sonoma fits shimano SPD only.

The sole is fairly soft and grippy on a hard dry surface, but has no tread pattern and are very slippery on wet grass. They dont work well in std platform pedals or with toe clips because of the lack of any tread.
I dont like the way they roll when walking, the cut away heel doesnt agree with me.
They do look nice and are well made, so for a casual SPD shoe, they are one of the better ones.
