Tandem Cycling - True Temper Forks

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I have heard that True Temper Sports is going to quit the bicycle fork business. I think this would leave only Winwood and WoundUp producing tandem carbon fiber forks (and Santana's proprietary forks). Has anyone else seen anything on this?

I have heard that True Temper Sports (aka, Alpha Q forks) is going to quit the bicycle fork business.
True, as confirmed by highly reliable sources.

Wow, really!
Honestly, I wish the Alpha was a bit stiffer.
Ritterview had Edge composites make a tandem fork, I wonder if they'd do another.

Did Reynolds stop making tandem forks?

Yes....
In fact, you may recall John Slawta at Landshark had picked-up and was blowing-out Ouzo-Pro forks on Fleabay last year, one of which I have sitting in my garage... along with a spare Alpha Q X2.

Aaagh
well I guess someone had to be first...
Anyone know where I can get hold of an Alpha Q X2 44mm?
Had a coming together with a car that decided to overtake and then turn right in front of us. We hit it in the trunk at about 15 mph. We're OK apart from the odd bruise, but I have been advised to replace the fork.
many thanks

If all else fails, contact Alpha Q directly or perhaps Calfee Design.

My yet-to-be received Calfee does have an Edge 2.0 fork (http://www.edgecomposites.com/forks/road.aspx). Though I corresponded with Edge representatives, I never could get the straight story on this fork. There was talk of a one-off reinforced 2.0, but as far as I know, the fork Edge sent is a stock 2.0.
Mike Moore at Calfee told me that Edge has tested competitor's forks, and found the Edge 2.0 fork to be stronger than the Alpha Q. I've seen a photo cache from Edge featuring broken rival's carbon components that verify Edge does such testing. Was this the Alpha Q X2 tandem fork? Was the Edge stiffer? I don't know.
The Edge 2.0 fork is reputed to be stiff and robust, it is the favorite fork at the component obsessed WW forum. It might be a good tandem fork, it weighs 350 grams, just 25 gms less than the Alpha Q, and Edge's excellent carbon might be enough to make up the difference.
The thing is, however, that Edge makes clear in its literature that Edge Composites forks are not approved for tandem bicycle use. (http://www.edgecomposites.com/manuals.aspx?id=qxcoPJNCEaY%3d)
Maybe Edge says this because they don't think the Edge 2.0 is up to the job, or even if they suspect their fork is worthy they don't think the tandem market large enough to test for.
I'll report on this fork when I ultimately get my bike. If it isn't up to task, I'll switch it out and put it on my BMC.

Yikes... The Edge 2.0 has an even shorter axle-to-crown height of 367mm than the already very short 374mm Alpha Q X2.

I had a similar conversation where the Edge fork was brought up. It would appear to be the natural sucessor to the Alpha Q (and I also heard that testing was carried out for tandem use), unless someone resurrects the True Temper fork. As far as I know the only stock of Alpha Q X2 forks now reside with Calfee and Co-motion (and TG's spare). These companies are not selling the forks but are holding on to their inventory to support their bike sales. Both also stated they were exploring options for a replacement for the alpha q x2
I have sent mine to Calfee for evaluation in the hopes that it comes back with a clean bill of health.
cheers

A web search shows True Temper has filed for chapter 11 bancruptcy. Good news is this creates the posibility that True Temper may elect to sell their bicycle related asssets while they stick to their core products, golf clubs. Oops Tiger may have put a crimp in that plan! We better hope Lance doesn't get busted.

I have the Edge 2.0 on my CAAD9 and I really like it.
