Well today I did it. I was able to make 40 miles, 40.1 to be exact. Speed was not that great, only averaged 14.5 MPH. One stop on the 20 mile turn around to stretch my legs for a few minutes. I have had my new bike since mid October. I wanted to hit this mark sooner, but time, weather, and life has prevented it. Just wanted to share and say thanks for all you guys and gals in this section of BF that encourage me to ride as much and as often as I can...

Congratulations! I know what you mean about "stuff" getting in the way. Riding as much and as often as possible works!

Good job!:thumb: 14.5 is pretty good depending on where you ride. Heck, on flats I can average 19 but near home in the foothills, I really have to struggle to post a 14.5 average.:D

That's awesome you guys! I can only hope to reach such an accomplishment someday. I've only been riding since the spring and so far my longest ride was 33km or about 18 miles. It just about killed me. Of course I had my son on the back in his seat creating what was effectively a 25 lb. parachute. This spring I hope to buy a road bike and go for some longer distances - flying solo. :D

Thanks for the kind words guys...

Like I mentioned, I posted this because im so excited to reach it. I posted it because I hope it inspires one person to go ride today, many of times I have need motivation to get out and go ride and I come here and get the dose of motivation that I need.

Good for you. That was in Ft Worth? Did you do that on the Trinity Trails riding out and back from the north side?

40 miles is a good distance to take pause and review what needs tweaking (bike fit, clothing, gear) - that's far enough for things to start bothering you if they aren't quite right.

My own experience a year ago was that it was not difficult to increase distance on my longest ride from 28 to 50 miles; but I did progress too quickly and had some setbacks requiring a few weeks off the bike to heal up.

It was on the Trinity... Started in Benbrook up to 30 on the north east side and back..
like I mentioned flat, but its a nice ride, minus the walkers and their dogs..
