Hi all,

I've been spending way too much time riding and it looks like I need to enter my first race to shrink my big head. I'm on an old Specialized FSR right now for trails but what are the best options for a new xc racer? I'm partial to Specialized 'cause I've never been on anything else, but I'm open to all options. Should I go hardtail? Should I modify my current '98 expert :p ? Should I throw all my hard-earned money into a $4,000 S-works or go for something mid-range? Help! Thanks.

Why shouldn't he get a Specialized...If you're partial to them go for a Stumpjumper hardtail, it will cost you about $1800 (CAD) and they're ready to race right off the bat. I don't think the S-Works are worth the price tag myself. If you want to spend that much cash I would go for a Titus.
