Fenders with disk brakes?

I just bought a new bike (new for me). It's a Giant OCR Touring bike. It has disk brakes, which makes me happy since I have to drive thru puddles on a regular basis.

My question: can you put just any fenders on a bike with disk brakes or is that a problem? (Puddles again...)

Thanks in advance.

You can. You might need to get creative, but you can. On my Buzz it took some creative bending and attaching the fender stays to one of the caliper bolts.

On my Trek Portland, I run SKS P-35s in the three seasons...

and 45 mm PlanetBike Cascadias through the winter (pic from last year)

Of course, the odd location of the front fender eyelets makes things both easier and harder. Easier since there are no caliper clearance issues, harder because the fenderstays are mounted pretty much upside-down and inside-out. This requires trimming the fenderstays a bit more than usual.

At the rear, they mount in the conventional manner.

I can't seem to find pics of an OCR Touring anywhere. Where are the eyelets on your Giant?

Here's a link to a blog about a guy with your bike. Looks like he mounted his front fender the same way as tsl but he got creative for the rear; looks like he bent the struts and mounted them inside the dropouts.

I have SKS raceblade - these aren't full coverage fenders, but don't require any eyelets. I had to secure front stays to brake bosses, because it was slipping down the front fork, but they work great for me. Something to look at if your Giant doesn't have eyelets, or perhaps brakes get in the way.

Others may know more though.

Yeah, but you have the advantage that on the Satellite Elite fork the eyelets are on the *inside* of the fork

I've been able to do it with all mine, but like others had to get creative on the caliper side in the front.

I have fitted full fenders to my Muirwoods 29er. As long as you have the regular mounting points for fenders it shouldn't be an issue. In my case I fitted an extra spacer about 1/2" long on the caliper side and used a longer bolt to attach. This allows the fender struts to run 'outside' the caliper. It looks slightly odd, but its run without any issues for the last 8 months. All things are possible!

I had to do some custom modification of the left-hand stay on the front to fit my SKS fenders to my V3. A bend outboard, just behind the fork attachment loop, and then another bend back to the original plane, and it worked just fine. No modification needed in the rear. Make sure that you clear your brake caliper so that nothing hangs up, and you will be OK. Pics when I get home.

I would recommend the Planet Bike Cascadia fenders (not the EZ fenders) Planet bike makes a spacer adapter which allows you to mount these with disk brakes:

The fenders I got came with the disk adapter. These have been great fenders.

My LBS used SKS chromoplastic and bent the stays at the bottom to go under and around the disc caliper.
