I'm down in the basement working on getting the M500 up and running and I can't even find a seat post that fits it. For the amount of money and time that I am putting into this I could have a new bike. Hey! A new bike!
What do I want? I want a rigid fork (but perhaps a lock-out fork is OK, IDK: I never road one) and 700c wheels with wide tires. I want MTB or even slightly more upright seating position. Indexed shifters. I am pretty sure that I want disc breaks but that might not be a deal-breaker. It has to be tough to support my vast bulk.I'd like to keep the budget in line and by that I mean $700ish. So, prey much I'm shopping hybrid. Let's see:
Fuji has three kinds of Hybrids. (Are Fujis still "good" bikes)
Specialized has two kinds (easyier to pick)
Trek has like seven or eight
Kona has three lines (but there are EIGHT versions of the Dew!)
GT has three kinds
and all of them have multiple levels of componentry.
It goes on and on and as far as I can tell there are NO two of these bikes that cross compare directly! It's a dizying process.
What I'm interested in is how in the world you cut down your choices to what you have now!
