Thanks...it's pretty cool to have it back because it was an anniversary present. We've got a lot of miles on it since it was recovered.

We try to keep it always locked up...even when it's in our locked garage!

I seem to recall reading of something like the stolenbicycleregistry before - shall have to see if I can find a UK equivalent.

I have to be honest and say that I do rely a fair bit on the fact that a tandem is unwieldy and fairly unique - I do not always run the cables I have to secure the wheels (Sun Rhynos on QR) and have just put "lock 'n roll" QR on the seat posts but I do always use the D-lock.

I am always thinking that a thief is going to have great difficulty placing a tandem when it is so readily identified and surely no one could be so mean as to interfere with one - I dread being proven wrong!

For sure to point number one. I believe the bike was in fact too "hot" to fence (as we say here) and that was probably a factor in recovery. When it was recovered, it looked like it had been stored in a barn or dirty garage...probably to cool off before an attempt to sell or pawn.

Most tandems are handmade in small quantities and usually unique. But bike thieves are usually not so smart and wouldn't know these things.
