I just built up a basic mountain bike for my son with parts from a late 90's trek 930. The front derailer from the trek didn't fit on the frame, so I ordered a new SRAM x.7 front derailer without really thinking it out. The box for the x.7 derailer says 9 speed, but my son's bike is an 8 speed. Also, the box says 44-32-22 and my son has 42-32-22 front rings. The shifters are Gripshift 2's (400 SRT).

Will this front derailer work? Thanks for any help.
