Bicycle Mechanics - Jockey Wheel/G-Pulley icing and clogging up

I guess the topic says it all, when riding through slush my g-pulley (http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?40814-which-jockey-wheel-floats&p=353674&viewfull=1#post353674) on my LX rear-dérailleur gets clogged up, sometimes it gets clogged/iced enough to push/de-centre the pulley either left or right resulting in chain skipping.

Is there another geared system, perhap from sram, that doesn't use a centering upper pulley?

Use a lower pullery for the upper. Problem solved.

Won't that make another problem with skipping, the g-pulley is there to give a little "float" as I understand it... so unless the newly installed tension pulley is bang on i'll be back to skipping?

yeah, i figured it might be fundamental to the design, oh well... guess i just have to keep giving it a knock with the ol' boot to shake off the junk.

I was under the impression the OP placed a higher priority on chain skip issue than on shifting performance. How well is indexing going to work when pulleys/drivetrain is clogged with snow anyways?

I thought that after market pulleys (like the shiny boutique aluminium ones) didn't separate between guide and tension pulley, and hence didn't have any float.

It's simple. Wait for the temperature to change a couple of degrees to colder or warmer. Icing up like that is VERY temperature and condition specific. And there's no way to avoid it other than by adding a bottle of de-icing mix that drips onto your derrailleur or installing a heated pulley.

Of course this means you'll be either extra early or very late to get to work or class. Not sure how you'll deal with that. What? It's for PLEASURE!? Then just get your buns moving a bit earlier or have another cuppa coffee so it's a little later and warmer.

Or you could just zip tie a propane torch to your chainstay such that it blasts onto the derrailleur!

No it doesn't.

Indexed shifting was around before shimano came up with their floating upper pulley. And yes aftermarket pulleys do not come with this feature yet the shifting still works fine.
