I did peter canyon from barranca/harvard until newport (by car dealership). and the trail terminated

Where does it start?

I thought it goes to all the way to the beach?

I found a trail map on ocparks.com but i can't read it/understand it. Just intersections are fine.

Are you talking about this trail (http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/364460)? If the car dealer you're referring to is the MB dealer @ Jamboree & Bayview, you can see by zooming that there are two points where the trail continues: on the east side, off Eastbluff, and on the west side, caddy-corner from the dealership.
