sorry if this has been discussed before but a search yielded me not much more than commuters talking about studded tires (which i don't have)

i have a race this afternoon and there is about 8-10" of fresh powder (and still going). my usual mud/slush tire is a Kenda Kross Supreme (35)

but i also have a pair of IRC Mythos CX Slicks that are 42's

i would generally trend toward the wider tire for so much snow, but i fear the lack of large tread on anything but the edges would negate any advantages? any advice?

dang, what race is this? i would've thought about coming down from philly, esp. in these conditions

my retro kenda cyclokross 27" tires did great today (so far) in my backyard, mini-cx course:)

Go for the Kendas. I run WTB Velociraptors in snow when we get it, and the Kendas come close to what I run. I love riding in snow. Let your bike sit in the cold for an hour before you ride, you'll get better traction with colder tires.

well that 8" turned into 13" and some banks of 2ft or more

up into the cranks/chain/BB and the derailler was gone. we decided a snowball fight and some sledding were more in order.

yeah, snowdrifts of 13 inches plus (at 4pm yesterday) made my shifting miss alot...but it was interesting.

should've taken off the obviously useless Michelin CX Sprints...green rubber made no difference...felt like i was drifting in Fast and Furious Tokyo Drift
