Winter Cycling - Resurecting my old bike for winter use

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Hey all,

Just thought I'd share this. While going through some old boxes in storage, I found a small box filled with brand new components. I bought them about 10 years ago with the intent of buying a new frame. Then I got married, the box of components got packed away, and I forgot about them. So, I've decided to give them a new life on my 1993 Trek 800. I bought this bike when I was 13. It has over 12,000 miles on it. It will be my winter bike. Today I pulled all the old components off and cleaned it up. Somewhere along the way, I misplaced the seat and seat post.

In the box were:
8-Speed Shimano XT derailleur
Shimano XT front Der
Shimano LX cantilever brakes
Shimano LX shifter/brake lever group

After the seat post, I'm going to order fenders. I'm seriously thinking about picking up an XtraCycle kit for this, too.

I will update this thread when the build is complete and when I have snow pics :)

nice!

have you made any progress since 12/19?

I have a Trek 520 in the basement (bent frame) with a seat post and seat. the seat has some wear on the front but i you want them - send me aPM with your address and I'll ship them to you - just pay the postage.
